Is there some trick for co-sleeping with a cat? Cindy and Swanie both sleep in our bed during the day, but at night we close the door. Lately, Cindy has been meowing and pawing at the door. I've tried lots of things, some of them worked for awhile. Once I led her downstairs to where Swanie was sleeping, and she got on the couch with him. A couple times I took the old food up and put new food down, and a few times I just loved on her for awhile. Last night none of those worked, so hubby said let her in for a few minutes. Well she got on the bed and curled up at the bottom on my side. I couldn't sleep because I was afraid I would kick her or roll on her or something. Going into another room didn't work either because Swanie found me and had a field day jumping on me, crawling on me, burrowing etc. and I didn't want to close that door because their litter box is in there. I finally got Cindy out by opening up a can of food and giving them each a little bit of it, but that was about 2:30 am and they woke me again at 6:00 am. I'm very tired today!

i thought the same way you did, that i was going to kick them or something! but they decided to come sleep on the bed on there own. they come running when they hear the tv go off. i toss and turn alot at night, and the cats have figured out how to adjust, lol. they usually move to the other side of the bed till i get comfy again, they they snuggle back down. i always thought that if i tossed and turned to much, they would get tired of moving and get down. nope, i think they consider it a game, lol. they sleep on my bed most the night, till about 7-8 am when they decide its the Daytona 500, and streak in and out of the bedroom like the devil himself is after them. only thing i have found that stops that is a lavender smelling plug in in the bedroom, helps me relax for sleep, and they seem to relax too!!

Do you want them sleeping with you or not? I'm a bit confused.

If you don't want them sleeping with you, try Hissy's suggestion. Park the vacuum cleaner, with the switch in the "on" position outside the door and run the cord to an outlet near your bed. When they start scratching and/or meowing at the door, plug it in and run it for a few seconds. That should be enough for them to scoot along to another spot.

If you want them in the bed with you, they'll adjust to your sleeping style. I don't kick or move around a lot, but when I do, if it's too much for them, then they find other more comfortable accommodations. Very rarely, if ever, have I kicked one off the bed.

I like my cats sleeping with me. I couldn't sleep without a few there with me! Mine sleep fine they won't get squished or knocked off the bed. If you don't mind them sleeping with you. Then just let them settle in where they want and you move all you want they will adjust to it fine.

I rather doubt you'll manage to kick or roll over on your cats, as they're a lot quicker than you are. They sleep very soundly, anyway, especially at night, being nocturnal, and they'll just leave, or move to another spot, if you're too restless.

Lu sleeps with me every night, and I love it! The only thing I don't like is when she sits by my head and meows until I wake up..

Panther either sleeps ON my bed or IN it with me. Only thing I, MYSELF, don't like is when he puts his foot in my water glass and tips it over! <sigh> Usually poor Kotti is UNDER my nightstand and she and her bedding get wet when he does that - also it is no fun to be wakened out of a sound sleep by a Siamese yowling because she is wet!

I sleep with any number from one to five in the bed with me! Dushka has slept curled into my arm since she was three weeks old and I have never rolled on her - she always moves if I do and changes sides if I turn over. So I would not worry - enjoy the extra warmth and affection.

My two sleep with me but if i accidently shove Rosie with my leg or arm she'll jump of the bed with such a thud as if she's huffed, but jumps back on a couple of minutes later

I don't mind them sleeping with me, I just worry about hurting them. I'm kind of a worrier (in general). I sort of feel like they won't let themselves get squished, but I still worry. I Don't want to discourage them from sleeping there, I just want to figure out how to adjust so I can get a good night's sleep too. Thanks all for the reassurance

Oh, and one other issue. Swanie likes to burrow, and I worry that he won't get enough air when he burrows. Is that an issue? He will burrow way down under covers, comforters, heavy blankets. He loves it though and purrs his head off.

Even when Mini was a baby, she insisted on sleeping with us..I couldn't put them in another room, because they had to be able to get to the litter box, & I had to leave the door leading towards that door open. We got used to her crawling all over us, & she has since learned to settle down at bedtime & often curls up next to my chest. Sometimes she lives dangerously & sleeps between us, & so far has managed to avoid being squashed!

as to the getting enough air question, i think hes fine. if he wasent getting enough, he would get outta there. i know its HARD to do, but dont worry about the lil things like that, they can take good care of themselves

There are times when I sleep with all 7 of my cats and my boyfriend smushed on the bed with me. The cats don't care. If we roll over they jump off the bed or off us and wait until we get comfortable again then come back or sleep on the floor.

A few of them also LOVE to burrow under the covers and sleep there. Thats what cats do, don't worry about it. If they are not happy they will find a different place to sleep.

Harley sleeps with us - on his own pillow @ the top of the bed. I couldn't imagine him not wanting to sleep with us!

When he wants a change of scenery he'll sleep on the couch usually (or the bathtub
), but then a few nights later he always comes back

Oliver's my sleeping buddy! (I think I'm part cat with the way I nap...) He has a pillow that sits perpendicular to mine and he sprawls out or curls up next to me with his head on the pillow - according to my boyfriend, I dont sit still when I sleep, so apparently, Oliver's learned to deal with that... sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and he's elsewhere: eating, pooing, looking out the window, sleeping on my desk chair... but more often than not, he's back next to me when it's time to really wake up.... Oliver also burrows sometimes (he just started it over Christmas break when we were at my parents'... I call it him being a cat bump) and when he first gets himself situated under there he always finds an edge of the blanket he's under so just his little pink nose sticks out... I've seen him stay under and nap for several hours but it's usually about an hour or so and he pops out again... don't worry too much about it, he's not gonna let himself suffocate - I'd say, if your kitties are begging that much to sleep with you at night, go ahead and let them (As long as you still get to sleep, haha)... they'll leave if your sleeping style bothers them anyway...

I truly treasure my "bed time" with my girls. Kitty Bear can't wait to come to bed and cuddle for a bit. She'll lay down as close to me as she can get. For a cat that doesn't want to be held, this is really special. Ruth will curl up on my chest for a bit. Then she jumps in her bed on the chair within reach of our bed. Kitty Bear comes and goes through the night and doesn't seem to mind that I toss and turn.

My little Siamese girl, Susie, always slept under the covers with me. She would come and paw at the covers until I lifted them for her and then settle next to my tummy (I sleep on my side). She always managed to breathe just fine and never got squashed.

Bijou sleeps facing me, covered to his neck (or upper arms) with his head on my pillow. If the house gets cold in the middle of the night he will snuggle down closer to my chest with his back against my arm pit.

Don't worry about the cats - they know enough to move if they are getting jostled by us sleeping humans.

My two sleep with us - I don't move much in my sleep but my husband is forever tossing and turning. It doesn't seem to bother the girls too much - they simply move if it looks like they might get squashed by their dad. There's nothing nicer than waking up with a kitten sitting on your chest, looking down at you and purring

My girls love to sleep on the bed with us.

Jake never really has, he prefers the spare room. But Jaz and Izzy always join us at night.

Izzy stretched out between us, (doesn't do much for your love life
) and Jaz cuddles up to me. I do wake up sometimes to find Jaz wrapped around my head but generally she just lies in my arms.

Fortunately we have a king size so there is plenty of room.
