Does anyone have any suggestions on how to unclog a bathtub drain? Mine clogged over the weekend, and has been a pain in the you know ever since. I even had the maint. person for the building come over-- he tried plunging it- which of course did'nt work-- I've poured bleach down it, plunged, and plunged and still it is clogged
tonight I will be removing the plate with the screws on it ( sorry I have no idea what to call it) and lifting the stopper to make sure nothing is stuck there, that might be fun since the screws are rusted

Any advice?
Please and thank you

I had to take the oplug out and get a coat hanger hook and fish out all of the hair and soap stuff. Its disgusting. I am so sorry you have to deal with that! Yuck!

Have you tried some of the unclogging products at the hardware store. there are some specific for helping to dissolve hair clogs. Try to get one that's a gel...it seems to work better and faster.

The coat hanger trick works for me as well.
If your pipes are older, I wouldn't recommend using the liquid products for clogged drains. We had a plumber out last week and I mentioned I had used it in my kitchen sink and he explained that it could eat through the pipes and advised me not to use anything other than bleach in the future.

You probably already know this, but whatever you do, DO NOT use bleach & drain cleaner at the same time.

I would think so, but I really don't know since it is still clogged.
Anyone else?

I have filled the tub with hot water a few times since then, so hopefully I flushed it out. It does drain but ever so slowly. I filled the tub up ALL the way last night, and it took an hour for it to completly drain. So it's moving just not at an acceptable pace
I probably won't try the drano thing unless my little project tonight fails

Thank you all for your help, I am soo un-handy

I'd go with this idea as well!

When we moved into our apartment, our drain always got plugged up and I would have to stand in many inches of water everytime I would take a shower! So finally John had to take off that plate and he took out a lot of icky stuff!

The joys of apartment living I guess!

I hope you get your drain unplugged soon - I know how annoying that can be!

yes apt. living really bites sometimes! You all probably did'nt hear about my other problem!!!!!!! They bug-sprayed yesterday and I had to lug the fur-kids back and forth to moms house.
pain in the you know.... I did'nt want to take any chances with the chemicals ya know. Poor, poor Murphy he was so besides himself. He had never been over my moms, so he was freaked out! Chichi was quite relaxed-she sat in the ab-lounger the whole time. When I came to bring them back -- Murphy was no where to be found
talk about FREAK-OUT!!!! Finally a little gray head popped out from behind some drywall, whew!I felt soo bad for him he was very upset. Thank the Lord that's over

f the bathtub drain is clogged, try removing the overflow assembly plate and then removing the trip. The trip works as a plunger and is designed to collect hair. Remove the assembly plate by simply unscrewing the two screws that are holding it. Pull out the trip and remove the hair. Put the trip and assembly plate back and screw it back in.
Prevent clogs by routinely cleaning the hair out of the drain. Use tweezers, a wire coathanger (cut and unbent), or a finger to remove the hair from the drain. (Info from HGTV's website.
OR check www.plbg.com a plumbing forum website!!

Well, now my bathtub won't drain at all
removing the plate and plunging made it worse
no drainage what-so-ever I'm so beyond peeved! When I removed the plate, there was no stopper/trip so either the morons who installed it did'nt put it on, or they put it on wrong and it fell off. So I don't know what the next step will be? I might be moving to a new apt. because I don't see how they are going to get to the pipes without ripping out the tub
theres an apt. right under mine so its not like they can go at the pipes from below. This is just so upsetting. I WANT A HOUSE!!!!!!!

I have no idea about plumbing...at all
but I had alot of problems at a place I used to rent with the bathtub too. We got this stuff (not sure what it was called) but it was a Draino type product that you dump the entire bottle down the plugged drain and leave it for a day. Always did the trick. It's especially good for hair clogs.

OH! And another thing retard Murphy fell in the murky water this morning so I had to give him his first bath at 6 am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the shower curtain pulled all the way across the tub so he could'nt even see in there, all of a sudden I hear a bunch of comotion in the tub and theres retard boy
so he got to experience a bath twice this morning. He could'nt have picked a worse time to go exploring in the bathroom. I had the door locked all night, but this morning I was doing my hair and someone lurked in. This is not my week!To add to the fire Now we have a HUGE project here at work, not even in my dept.in the wherehouse!! I have to do man-work today! so I won't even be at a computer to talk to you guys hardly today and I'm going to be lifting junk so I'll be all sore
Please send me some soothing vibes for my nerves
