Woke up this morning and was -18 degrees F!!! The house didn't seen much warmer!! Right it "warmed" up to a balmy -3 degrees. Neil is outside snowblowing all the drifting snow back off the driveway. We did venture outside to do some shopping at a new store in town "Farm Tractor Supply". I got a different thingy that hooks my garden wagon to the ATV!!! And found the wire I have been looking for my industrial strength tomato cages. Too bad its $110 for a roll. But it will make lots of cages. Anyhow this colder weather will only be around for another couple of days!!

We're not quite that cold, but it's really cold here too! The low was -13F (-25C), and we woke up when the power came back on causing the smoke alarm (wired into the power) to "test". The power company is doing rolling blackouts because of the high energy useage. I've never heard of such a thing because it's too cold! They've threatened it before when it was over 100F, but not because it's cold.

Sounds like some pretty nifty stuff at the store for your landscaping.

Brrrr is an understatement! We woke up to 14 below this morn in NE WY. But hey, at least we have power. Can you image being cold with a power outage? Always something to be thankful for!

Its 10F here with very high winds. Going to below zero tonight. Yesterday we had awfull winds gust up to 60 mph trees down every where. We lost power from 3:00 till 7:30 yesterday. So I cooked steaks on the grill and boiled potatoes on top of the wood stove for mashed and ate by latern light. My house is nice and warm the wood stoves full and its almost 80 inside. All the cats are conked out in front of it sleeping. Zzzzzzzzzzz..

I went to bed last night at 1am, and the bedroom was freezing.
The wind was howling, things were going bump in the night.
At 4:30 this morning, Vash, Shadow, and Ivory woke me up wanting under the covers.
My sleep was shot, as soon as I felt that cold air on my face I was wide awake

I wasn't very happy with them, why couldn't they go downstairs with the rest of the mammals where it was warm?

Funny that you mention it. I remember when I was in college and we would go through a cold snap like we are now, everyone was ready for sunbathing when the temperature got above 45.

As for the rolling black-outs here, it would be nice if they could not include the traffic lights. Though traffic is light for a Saturday morning, people get really confused when the lights aren't working.

I think that is -25 with the wind chill factor - not actually -25.

Talk about brrrr! It's colder (with the windchill) than it has ever been in the 10 years I've lived in the Puget Sound area. And we are out of power...still. We were out at some point in the night going into Friday am, got it briefly, lost it again until 1 pm, then lost it again by 3 and it's still not back on. With the windchill it's like -10 in some areas, and our yard is littered with tree limbs and bits and pieces of branches. Lots of clean up to do!

We let our foster Frankie (Sharky's kitty to be) in to sleep with us last night..it was a night of both my tabby curl girls (including Alix) being very curious and just wanting to sniff this Patrick look-alike, but she was having none of it! Snarl and spit, but she did snuggle next to my husband and I all night and did a very happy yawn and stretch this am. Kitties like downfeather comforters too
I think she'll be fine once she gets to know them a bit better - she's fine with Patrick now and is almost ready to snuggle up with him during the day.

At least in our den we have a woodstove, so that room is warm and toasty!

Hope the power is back on by tonight, oil lamps do just so much (heh..anyone else ever given sub-q fluids by oil lamp light? Patrick was SO good about it last night).

ps the reason I can post
is we went in to dh's workplace so he could get some work done that he would have done at home if we had power. The area w/out power is sorta along a line - Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps, Graham and our area, most of the area is fine now re having power.

Well, here in northwest Illinois, it was -5 F this morning, and thats actual temperature. So cold that dh left the horses in the barn. And the outside cats haven't been using the little heating pad, so we had unplugged it. But with the temperature dropping about 30-40 degrees, I did plug it in last night. I still think they slept in their insulated boxes, but at least it was there if they wanted it!

I would be in bad shape if the power was out...I'd have to run my gas stove, and I know that is not a good idea! Or get in one bed with all the kids and cats, and do a lot of cuddling under the blankets!

It one rural community somewhere around here (NE Wisconsin) they had a problem with the natural gas line so there were several households w/o heat. They had power and it was reported they were using ovens and space heaters. Man I would be worried about the water pipes freezing. With our house being electric that is always a thought. Thank goodness for the woodstove.
The lost windchill reported this morning was -41 degrees!! Yikes.
That is why when its 30 degrees I run around sometimes w/o a coat on-thats warm!!

Let's see. I saw the temperature was 2 when I woke up, but the windchill was -6. The high today has been 12, with a wind chill of -1.
Stayed inside all day, and actually had to turn up the heat!

Thanks for the invitation, Carla. My bags are packed, and I'll be knocking at your door by sunrise, tomorrow!
