We have a lake (ok, so it's really a retention type pond but for the sake of this thread it is a beautiful lake) just outside of my office. Each year there is a flock of Canadian geese who stop in just before winter begins for about a week or so and then they leave. They stop back in again when winter is almost over, but during this time they stay a bit longer than a week. I am assuming our little lake is one of their resting places during migration. I find it absolutely amazing that these birds find their way back to this little lake every year. I am always so happy to see them out there

On my way in this morning I noticed that they were back and it brought a big smile to my face. I hope this means today is going to be a great day

Canadian Geese are amazing. From what I understand - they go back to the same exact places every year. That's all they know.
Have you ever seen Fly Away Home? It's a great movie. I loved it! I thik it was based on a true story? (losely based). I could watch that movie over and over again.

I have seen that movie and it had me in tears at the end, happy tears
I am hoping to go out and snap a few pics so you guys can see them. I know it might sound silly but they really brighten my day when they are here.

We are on a migratory route for them. I hate to say this even though they are pretty birds they can cause quite a mess from their ummm poop. And depending on the flock size quite noisy too. In the fall they stop on many cornfields for the night and I'm sure they are looking for any leftover corn in the fields. They must be preparing to head up this way!!

I have to agree about the messy part. You should see some of the golf courses around here - yuk!

Just to be picky and pedantic for a minute here; they are Canada Geese, not Canadian Geese.

And they are magnificent birds. But not too popular when you have dozens of them pooping on the lawn and eating the grass. We have a love/hate relationship with them here in Southern Ontario.

Well here at our little lake there are only a small handful, maybe 6-8 CANADA geese, who stop in so we don't have to deal much with the mess. They are noisy, but I really do enjoy them

When they land in some of the fields around here (like the one across the road) there are at least a couple hundred!! There is a product available to deter them from your property. A DNR person told me it tastes like grape Kool-aid which I guess they don't like!!

It's really too bad that because of people feeding them, they've become permanant residents of a lot of urban areas and are now on a lot of Government hit lists.

I go for walks on the golf course enxt door, and boy you aren't kidding when you say it gets messy. They have been around quite a bit lately, and I like to hear them honking when they fly overhead.

Here is a pic I took last May. How cute are they?

It seems that a lot in nature is amazing.....the thing that blows my mind are the hummingbirds. They will come back to where I had my feeder by the kitchen window the summer before and "hunt for it" if I don`t get it up soon enough in the spring .
