I came across this site while looking for answers to keep a chronically ill cat well. I have actually had more experience with dogs these are my first two cats and I guess that is why I have been overwhelmed with a cat that has what a feline specialist thinks is chronic pancreatitis. Patches is my little guy that has been sick several times already. He will be three in May and was rescued by a co-worker when he was only about three weeks old. She already had four dogs and five cats and asked me to take him. I sometimes wonder if the early separation from his mother is the reason for his chronic health problems. When he is between episodes, which is the vast majority of the time, he is a happy and very active cat. He is very sweet I have never heard him hiss even when I brought Alice home five monthes after I got him. They even played a little the first night I had her. She will be three in October and so far there have been no health problems with her. I have heard her hiss many times. She puts poor Patches through three days of hissing at him when he comes home from the Vet. I am looking forward to getting to know the people on the forum. I probably don't have a lot to offer since I am such a novice with cats.

Welcome to the forum Denice

I'm sorry to hear that the little guy isn't well and that you are going through this

What has your feline specialist recommend you do to keep Patches healthy for now? I'm not a massive cat expert but there are definitely people here who will be able to give you advice

I'm sending you and Patches good vibes

When you are feeling less overwhelmed, maybe you can post up some pictures of your babies

He is on a prescription low residue food which seems to have lenghthen the time between episodes. He started on this food in July after an episode and he was okay until January. He's back to his old self now.

Hi there Denice
we're so happy to welcome you and your two kitties to TCS. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us - we're one great big family and you'll find loads of friends here. If I can help at all while you're finding your way around TCS just click on my username and send me a Personal Message - I'll do what I can to answer your questions

I hope the little guy gets well soon. You'll get plenty of help and advice here. Many people find that one cat hisses at the other when they come back from the Vets - they smell different. When you have a minute to look through the forums, try the Behaviour and Health forums - you'll find lots of tips for helping with this issue there.

Good luck with your babies.
