But a female has to have orange on both of her X's, otherwise she'll turn out calico or totie if its just on one. Hope that was interesting to someone! Good luck with your search!
I had no idea why they were so rare. Thanks! That is interesting.

oh this is exciting! I really hope you find your orange girl!

I myself am thinking of one day having a persian, I'm not saying this in a mean way, cuz I love them, but their little squashed up faces and button noses are so darn cute!!! and I don't think I have yet seen a picture of one someone owns on TCS!

Feline colors are indeed seemingly random. Freckles is an orange tabby male. He fathered 3 litters with a female in the house (this was with a previous owner) before she got rid of the female and got him neutered. Only one of the kittens was orange - all the others were black or grey!

I hope you find your orange girl - I'm thinking about a 3rd cat once I move but I'm leaving sex, color and coat open at this time. As long as the newbie gets along with Freckles and Bob, I'll be happy.

I completely agree with you - I'll take any color, size, shape, etc as long as they get along (which is why I did go back to the shelter and adopted that little gray girl I was talking about in previous post). I'm not the one who want's orange (although they are cute!!) - it's my kids. They say orange is the last color we need. We have white (with some gray tabby), sealpoint (or tan I suppose), black, and brown (oh yeah! and now gray too). They figured that orange will "round out" the family colors...haha

I'll go along with the others.. I'll take anything in terms of coloring, that tugs my heart really hard... but what I'm really hoping for is a dilute/cream tortie.that was the kitten that set me on this 3rd kitten desire. By the time I had the opportunity to go back and get her, she was alreay gone.

But I'll take nearly anything.

Well, our little gray beauty is home and fitting in nicely already. And...because I've rescued a few cats from this shelter - the lady there gave me her e-mail address and said she would watch for an orange female baby for me!

The lady at the shelter that was kind enough to keep her eyes open for me has found our little orange baby girl!!!
I'm so excited!! She said this little one was meant for us because her name is Molly (which is what we named the our new little long haired gray girl that I fell in love with when I was searching for a little orange one). WOW! - guess fate works in mysterious ways!

She's only 7 weeks old now, so she's not home yet, but they sent me some pics. She looks like a doll!

And - now that is it!! We are done! 6 is enough! Someone told me I had to have 6 cause it's a nice even number . Well, I fell for that one, but this is it. No more ....hehe - yeah right!

Ohhhhhh yes I went back. I begged for others here to stop me .. , but no such luck. So I went and she has been a spectacular addition to our family. She is by far the sweetest little thing I have ever seen and it is beyond me how anyone could have parted with this little girl. She's is just so sweet.
As you can see - she's feeling right at home already (with a few minor glitches. She's getting beat up by my little tabby. But that's another subject for another forum and I've posted in the behavior forum).

The funny thing is that we named this little girl Molly (after much debate.. ) and this little kittens name is Molly as well so the HS worker said it must be fate.

My Molly (almost 14) is an beautiful orange female. One of her parents looked Siamese, so I'm wondering if that's how it was possible (since it seems to be so rare). I feel honored to have a rare kitty Try Petfinders.com. Good luck!!!!! Sure wish I could clone my baby

Wow that is a coincidence!

And yes we did find her - we think. I told the young lady we would definitely take her, but haven't heard back. She's usually pretty busy at the HS though, so maybe it's just taking time.
