Feliway banned in Michigan

It's time for one of my cats yearly vet visits, and since he is so difficult, I thought I might try picking up some of the feliway spray to try and calm him down a bit. I've seen it at several of the area pet stores in the past, and didn't think I'd have a problem finding it. I was wrong. None of the stores I visited carried it. At the last one, I asked what was going on. The manager told me that Michigan has banned the sale of feliway products, because in their (the states) mind, the product contains pesticides, and the manufacturer of feliway refuses to put that information on the containers. I'm trying to find out more information on this, but so far haven't had any luck. Feliway's website won't open for me, and my internet searches haven't turned up any additional information. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Also, anyone have any advise for me on how to calm my cat? He's a very sweet boy at home, but becomes very agressive at the vets office. Last years checkup was pretty much worthless. I'd rather not repeat that experience.

Petco in Holland, Mi had feliway forsale when I was there this past Sunday. I was shocked at the price of it $32.99. I had no idea that stuff cost that much.

I saw it for 19.99 here in Minnesota. Somewhere else I saw it for 29.99(still in the state of Minnesota).

Perhaps you could try Rescue Remedy? I don't know if it has the same effects, but you could do a seach for it to find out more about it.

What is rescue remedy? I've never heard of it before. Do they sell it in stores, or just over the 'net?

Petco always seems to be more expensive than the other pet stores. I try not to go there. The price may have increased, too, since there's probably not much of it left in the state to sell. The guy I talked to said the stores in Michigan were allowed to sell their remaining stock, but get no more once that was gone. So maybe the price has increased in response to a limited supply?

If you find it online, it is waaaaaay cheaper than that. Luckily, a store down the street from me practically gives it away at like $23...with S&H from online stores, it's about that much anyway. Good luck

Well, scince we are posting about feliway, I figured I'd put my two sense in.

This is MY favorite site for reading about feliway, and other ways to calm your kitty. Including some flower essences that help.

http://www.catfaeries.com/feliway.html

I havent heard about it being banned anywhere, didnt think that would ever happen. I think maybe some stores just dont sell it. I had only found it at ONE pet store within 50 miles. The others said they "just dont carry it"

Maybe that guy was just being a wierdo, or he doesnt belive in Feliway or something. Maybe he's like a naturalist, and thinks all kitties should never have anything plugged into a wall, or sprayed onto the couch, to make them feel better. LOL...I dunno, just my mind ramblin off again.

I got mine on Ebay. For 2 plug-ins and 2 refills, it only costed like $40 bucks and that included shipping.

I asked the same question about why the Chow Hound in Holland, MI no longer carries it. They told me the same thing. How stupid! I would try on line to find it, or just try other pet stores because they can sell until their stock is gone.

It's still for sale in Wisconsin. The US site is down for some reason, but if you click on the Union Jack, the UK site is working. I couldn't find an ingredient list on there, though.

I wanted it mainly for the vet visit, which is over now. I did ask my vet about this too, because he had some of the Feliway. He told me that the sprayers have been banned, but not the difusers. It has something to do with the way they are applied. I didn't quite understand it all, but somehow the way the sprayers are used is similar to pesticide applications, and even though there aren't any pesticides in Feliway, it falls into that catagory here in Michigan. Anyway, it's all pretty idiotic, and my vet assured me that the product is completely safe. I may try to find some online now, just to keep for next year.

Try this site too:

http://www.revivalanimal.com/product.asp?pn=19-410

If you buy in quantities, they'll give you a $2 discount.

I personally think the franchise pet stores (Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus) are WAY too expensive in Michigan. I try to get my cat stuff either at Target or online. It's weird too as I can go someplace, like Denver and their products will be less than what they're selling in MI...plus if you go on Petsmart's web site, they're about $10 less then the store!!

Oh, OK.....one of those legal idiocies that doesn't make any sense.
: Yeah, just buy it online....it's cheaper that way, anyway.
