Two of my cats are micro-chipped but I've no idea what the chips are called (can't remember the name of the lost/found company off the top of my head - it's filed away somewhere).

One of my cats got done while he was awake - and boy did he howl. I felt really mean
The other got done when he was under anaesthetic being neutered so he didn't feel it.

I'm going to get the rest of my cats chipped as and when I can afford it (huge vet bill recently killed off my bank balance
)

Sturgis, Trouble and Milo all have the homeagain microchip. I will get Spirit and Cali done when they need their first dentistry's, I just can't implant it while they are awake. I also have my 2 poodle puppy's done with the homeagain chips. I am debating on my older dogs, I am thinking I will do one for sure (she's almost 11 years old and 65 pounds) the almost 13 year old I am up in the air about (she's 50 pounds), and the almost 14 year old's health is failing (he's 75 pounds) so I don't think it would be worth it for him. The big thing with the older dogs is for their size how much longer will they be around, and is it worth it. They all get so many pills at meal times that I feel like a pharmacy.

We charge $40, not including the registration.

Can you crush up the pill and put it in the food? Those old cats can get tricky to medicate, we just lost our 23 year old clinic cat at the end of September, and he was an awful patient.

Three of my little boogers are chipped. All the boys and it is with Home Again. Little Sage will be done when she goes in for her next rabies shot in June. It will also be with Home Again. The military uses Home Again and when I call to speak with them they are friendly and helpful so I like them. It is also easy to update the records.

Dexter & Sadie are chipped with AVID.
I called my local humane society to be sure that they had an AVID scanner before I took them to their vet to have it done.

Do a microchip search in this Forum. There are quite a few informative threads about chipping cats.
I highly recommend having all kitties chipped.

Oliver is chipped with homeagain (I think, but I'm not at home with my file). He flinched a little, but not as bad as the vet expected. With all of his shots, I was allowed to hold him still, but I was not allowed to touch him during the microchipping because the needle is so much bigger he was afraid Oliver might bite me. It turned out that Oliver was a perfect gentleman as always.

Tripod is not chipped because he never tries to get out. He is so afraid of cars that he doesn't even like looking out the windows that face the street.

Our cats & dogs are microchipped with Avid.

The local shelters (the ones that scan & use chips) use HomeAgain, but they have a universal reader that will read Avid chips too - I got paranoid & had them check my dog just in case, and it worked fine
.

Most of the vets around here charge between $25 - $40 for chip implantation. The Humane Society here also has microchip outreach clinics for $25.

All kittens and cats are microchipped at the shelters here before they are adopted.
Sophie has homeagain. I think I paid 17 dollars to activate it, and it is an annual fee.

My only microchip is Will, the outside boy pictured in my avatar. He was neutered at the TNR clinic, and for $15 got neutered, chipped, and vaccinated. The downside is that he is registered to a different rescue than the one I volunteer for! But he was born within a 1/2 mile of our house, and I am very certain he will not wander off.

I would like to chip Red and Blue before they are adopted...I have fears of them slipping out of someone's house, and would feel better if they were chipped!
