My cat recently started getting small scabs on her neck, it doesnt seem to be spreading from there, but there are new ones everyday. I will be calling the vet tomorow, but just wanted any ideas. Anything I can apply to it? COuld it be contagious? THe other cat doesnt seem to have anything.

thanks
Nick

99.999% sure that it is fleas, she needs a flea medicine FROM THE VET not the store and she should be fine. She could have allergies from it too, if the scabs are really bad, my one cat is allergic too.

I see so many cats like this and a lot of times the owners don't know what it is. I was in a little local pet store and they have a few cats that roam the store and one is just covered in scabs, some to the point of hairloss in several places. I asked the guy what is wrong with the cats and he was like "oh i don't know, it isn't a disease or anything" I am thinking about anonymously sending them a letter about it and suggesting what they can do for the cat. I don't know, I don't want to get in trouble or sound threatening or anything.

Yep, Fleas. They like to hang around the neck, I've observed. My cats get scabs from that all of the time. If your cat occasionally gets ticks, that's a possibility, but fleas are much more common than ticks in cats.

Hope you get it under control.

If you dont see any fleas it could possibly be that when the 2 cats play with each other they break the skin just enough to cause a scab.
Petals had some of these around her neck and thats what the vet told me. Garfield gets rough with her so it sounded right to me.
