Hi all...this is my first in what will likely be many posts....

I am intent on purchasing a cat tree today, so that my kitties can have it for Christmas. The model I like best is covered in faux fur. I like another model nearly as well that is covered in faux fleece. I have heard that faux fur is somewhat slippery and wondered if anyone could confirm...or refute this. Also... does anyone have any opinions to share on either of the coverings? Any help is appreciated as I am decidedly undecided....

Our babies' post is neatly wrapped in rope, and it works very good. Very durable and it does not leave "pickin's" all over the house. Jim, the old sailor, says that the rope is 1/4" diameter sisal.

Personally, I would steer away from anything except carpet and sisal rope. They can manage to pluck the carpet pieces out over time, and I can't imagine the nightmare of giving them actual fake fur or fleece to work with. We were at one home awhile ago and they had made a homemade cat tower. it was covered in sheepskin! LOL They had 6 cats and their living room looked like it had just snowed.

I have to agree with that. I don't think the coverings you mentioned give enough for a cat to really get its claws into. Also, be sure that it's plenty bottom-heavy and sturdy. Just picture your heaviest cat taking a flying leap off the top level ... you don't want it tipping over and falling down!!

I personally agree about the fur, but there are people here that have trees like that and love them. I got my Cupid
a carpet-covered condo, and he really sinks his nails into it, so I think that carpet is the way to go for us.
