I have an ad posted on Petfinder's website about Brody (the dog dropped off at our house Thanksgiving). I posted it yesterday and received some very odd emails regarding my ad. One is from a guy in the UK who claims to have lost his dog in a car accident and his child would give anything to have this dog... I get the feeling these are people who target people who place ads like this to get dogs for laboratorys and god knows what else
Brody has something unique about him that I have not mentioned so that I could confirm that someone who calls is in fact his owner. It just makes me sick to think that people have the nerve to send emails like this! I really feel like pulling my ad, but I guess it's worth dealing with for the chance that his owners may read it.

No, I am keeping him if his owners don't claim him. I have a thread about him here actually:

I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen in response to ads placed.

I posted a couple days ago about a dog and I have received 8 emails already about people in another country or they tell me some sob story about their previous pet dying or their sick starving family. Which makes no sense cuz why would I send poor people my pet?
Oh and they always say your beloved PET or your adorable PET. It is never the specific animal, like your dog or cat. And they want you to ship the pet to them through their special pet delivery service. Believe me I have received probably 100 of these emails from all the animals I post about on Petfinder or Craigslist.

These are scams, I cannot believe someone could actually fall for this and I am soory for the poor animals if the people do and ship them to god knows where.

That's horrible - what kind of creeps would take such advantage of a poor dog's plight? Yet you don't give up - here's to all of you who are looking out for these lost pets

Hmm...yes, I've heard of these type of e-mails. Some of them are akin to what's referred to as the "Nigerian Scam"...you know, where they tell you some story about their family's assets have been frozen, and somehow you can get the money, and you get to keep millions of it. All you have to do is provide your banking information...

So these people use the guise of wanting you to ship the pet, and in there somewhere they get your personal information. They don't want the animal, they want your money.

You're wise to be cautious!

I actually received a $5000.00 check for one of my bengals. Needless to say I tore it up after I took it to the bank to report him. The bank did nothing though. The bank said it was a real check but I knew that it was a scam.
I was not about to hand over my cat to a complete stranger who refused to answer any questions directly. Once I started asking questions thats when he sent the check. I guess he didn't think i'd care where my cat went if I seen the $. Even if it wasn't a scam, I still wouldn't have sold a kitten to someone like that who dodges questions about how he would care for the cat and if he was familier with the breed, ect.!!

Oh and I also got a call from a supposed "deaf person" asking about a "puppy", he didn't even know it was a cat and I was informed that this was also a scam too.
