He's a 14 year old kitty who was dignoised with early kidney disease almost 4 1/2 years ago, and who had been doing very well on a special diet of KD since then but...we took Snowball to the vet for another blood test today.... Afterward, the vet left a message on my answering machine saying there were some discripincies in the test results and he needed to talk to me more about this. The vet said he wants me to make another appointment so he can teach me something and Snowball needs to be put on meds. I'm soooo scared this means I'll have to start giving Snowball fluids under his skin.

I'm very attached to Snowball and I'm so badly shaken by this turn of events I can't even spell or type very well right now, so... please send some healing vibes to Snowball, and I'll post an update when I have more information.

Lori,

Sending vibes your way...it could really be as simple as Snowball now needing a phosphorous binder because phos levels have gone up. If you want to pm me any time, Patrick and I have been dealing with this (including sub-q's and various meds) for over 3 years now, and my Tyler is in the very, very early stages of crf as well.

Lorie, hang in there and try not to worry so much. Your vet can show you what is needed for Snowball's comfort, and I have every faith in you that you can come through this just fine.

I'm sending healing vibes Snowball's way, Lorie. Maybe it isn't as bad as you fear, and at any rate, I'm sure you'll be able to manage his care.

Sending prayers for Snowball, and calming hugs to you

If you do have to give subq fluids, don't panic - it's actually a lot simpler than it sounds, once you get the hang of it.
I gave my CRF girl subq fluids at home for a long time - it really seemed to help her feel better, and I think somehow she understood that so she didn't seem to mind it at all.

Thanks so much for all the vibes and the kind words, and please continue sending them.

The vet wanted me to make an appointment for either Monday or Tuesday of next week. Because of my work schedule, I made the appointment for Tuesday. I did talk to the vet on the phone a while ago, and he told me that at this time, he won't need to see Snowball again, since he's still hydrated.
Which is a good thing for Snowball's sake because we might be getting a winter storm the first part of next week, so he can just stay home where it's nice and warm. The vet said Snowball's creatin(sp?) level has gone above normal, (but I don't remember the exact number), and his BUN is 3.6, if I understand correctly, 3.6 is the highest it can be and still be within normal
.

Also, at this time it sounds like we might be able to just put Snowball on some meds which may help delay the start of having to administer fluids.

Thanks again, and I'll post future update(s).
