Yesterday I received the winter course catalog for the local technical college.
I was thinking of taking a class for small business mgmt. However they are offering this semester the Creative Metal Fabrication class that I want to take.
The small business class is a Video course that runs from 1/12 to 5/17. So I have to call for more info on that class as I don't know if I can take it at any time during the day/week as no specific schedule was listed. The Metal class is Thurs evenings 1/12 until 3/23. I haven't welded anything in over a yr and the course instructor I had for my welding class wasn't very good but I've spoken to a woman who has taken this class (more like an open lab) and she said the instructor is very good.
I want to be able to weld metal structures (for garden use) to sell along with my landscaping business. I don't have my own welding equipment and this is a good way to use the tech's equipment. And eventually buy my own.
But the business class is important too.
So I need some opinions please.
Cost of the classes will total about $370 so thats not an issue at this time.

I don't know your work schedule but I think you could manage both. Right now I work full time and am taking 2 classes, Anatomy and Statistics. It is alot of work as far as homework and such but it is manageable. Since your classes start at the same time you could always attend the first class and have a look at the syllabus. If it looks like too much to much to handle all at once you should be able to drop one of the classes within the first week or so with no penalty (full refund as well).

Well no job until next yr when I start landscaping-so the welding class shouldn't pose a problem for sure.

Personally I think you will do just fine with both.
It would be nice to get them both out of the way before your landscape business really takes off and you run out of time for everything

I'd say just go for both. It probably won't be that much more of a workload, esp. since I can't imagine what kind of "homework" you'd have to bring home for a welding focused class.
Good luck and enjoy your classes!

I would say go with both too--when I was in college - for Business, I had to take a Small Business Management class and I absoultely LOVED it!

Hey Gail, maybe you could put the welding to good use... create your own scooter from scratch.

It sounds like you want to take both, so why not go for it?

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I doubt they'll expect you to have your own welding gear to go home and practice running beads all night.
You probably should go for both classes.
