A few months ago we found a little cat in a tree at a park. We decided to bring her home because she was really underfed and seemed homeless. So we've had her for a while now and yesterday she started throwing herself on the floor, rolling all around and rubbing herself against things. she also sticks her butt in the air and starts howling meows that sounds like someone is stepping on her. So she's in heat right? Well my question lies with the howling. How long will it last? She'll meow every moment she's awake, and the rest of the time she goes to sleep or stalks after my male orange cat. We had him nuetered before we even got her. He doesn't really know what to do with her. She'll get near him and stick her rear in the air but he'll walk away or wrap his paws around her neck and start licking her face. Is that normal for him to do? He's only ever been around other male cats before.

Yes that is heat. I would schedule a spay asap. From what I have read it is not uncommon for neutered male cats to attempt to mate with a female cat in heat, even though they cannot do anything.

Blaze started the yowling at night.Since we didn't know her age cause we found her, I didn't know if it was possible for her to be getting ready to go into heat. So, off to the Vet for her spay. She was 6 months old according to the vet and hadn't went into heat yet.

What you described sounds like she is in heat.I would get her spayed ASAP.

Yeah, I plan to get her spayed soon. Does anyone know how long the loud meowing will last though? or will it last as long as her heat does?

I think it lasts as long as the heat. But I haven't been around an unspayed female in years.

Be careful opening doors to the outside, once they sexually mature, many cats become more interested in getting out so that they can mate.

it depends on where, you go. if it was a dog the vet would be annoyed, and the surgery would be more difficult, in cats..... not so much. the vets i work for don't charge more for a cat spay when she is in heat.
