We will be upgrading the forums here in a few weeks, just running it this way for now to see how everything is going.

This is brilliant - I came online today and it all worked. What's more, I didn't even have to fill my time with housework because it all happened while I was sleeping. Now that's what I call planning

Well done everyone!

Yea
I got an email notification this morning. Life is back to normal. Congrats to all of the techies involved. It was a smooth transition from this side (and hopefully not too difficult on yours).

I'm so glad we're back!

Question though, I see we've been up since yesterday morning... how come I haven't be able to get into the forums until now? I kept getting the "temporarily shutdown" screen. I cleared my cache, and I know my firewall isn't the cause as TCS is on my allowed list. Also, I checked it at work a couple of times yesterday, and the same thing?? Weird!!

Could be your permissions list for your firewall is configured as IPs, not domain names. Probably there is/was a different IP for the new server. Only way they could upgrade and keep the forum operating. After the upgrade, the IP was switched to the new server, or the DNS was changed to associate the new IP with the domain.

What was explained to me is that is has to do with the propagation of the servers. The site essentially shifted over to a new address and each one of our servers needs to shift with it. Sometimes it takes 48 hours or more for that to happen. For example, all my emails are backed up in the computer, but not in my inbin. I have to go into the section where the mail is stored in order to see it. Once the server has caught up with all of this, the emails should start appearing in my in bin once again.

I am wondering if anyone else is finding that they do not receive email notification of new posts in subscribed threads on a consistent basis? I am receiving some notifications, but none on other threads that I come back to later and find replies waiting

Possible E-mail notification problem....
When TCS first came back online, I subscribed to instant e-mail notification of posts in subscribed threads.
I changed that to "no e-mail' notification" when I realized how many I would receive.
I keep getting notifications...lots of them, all the time.

I tried 3 more times to change it back to "no e-mail notifications" but this morning, new notifications were still in my e-mail box from last night. It's not a big deal but I thought someone should know. There is a quirk in the works.

The site is running much faster. It is great. Thanks.

What you are seeing there is that the threads you subscribed to while you were on instant notification still have that designation on them, while the ones you subscribed to after the change don't. So you need to change the older ones manually -- you can go into your User CP, list all subscribed threads and change the notification on the relevant ones. Bit of a nuisance, but easily handled. I know -- I've been there! Oh, and nothing to do with the upgrade, either -- I made that change months ago.
