To make a very, very long story short, I'm looking for an old friend from my middle school years that I've lost track of. I'm trying to find some way online to find a phone # or address for him and every site wants like $30 just to give me his address. The problem is, it appears as though he's been moving a lot in the past few years according to phone book records. Compounding the problem is the fact that his father AND one of his cousins have the same first name and middle initial as he does. I've tried calling some of the #s I've found but nearly all are disconnected or have been re-asssigned to someone else.

His family is an undependable source of information, as they are just as transient as he is and appear to have moved to OK...at least his dad has. I can't seem to find his mom.

It's possible my friend might not be alive anymore. It's also equally possible that he's just fine, and doing well.

Other than hire a private detective to hunt him down, are there any dependable ways to try and find his contact information that don't involve plunking down $30 repeatedly for #s that turn out not to be his.

I've been looking for him for 3 years....the last time I saw him was in 2000 in my hometown. I had his number then but it wasn't safe for me to hang onto it...I know that sounds incredibly sketchy, but he's involved in stuff that I've been trying to distance myself from for the past 10 years. When I ran into him in '00 I wasn't ready to deal with him and all the baggage that comes along with it.
I'm at a point in my life right now where I want to gain some closure on the earlier periods of my life. I just want to know if he's okay, see where he's living, what he's doing.

If anyone has any advice on this type of thing...let me know

I know, it sounds weird, but, if I were to give you the past 10 years of back story you'd understand!

Would it be possibly he would be listed with an alumni group of a school he attended? If he's not, perhaps another mutual acquaintance is and they would know where he is?

Under the cats, mostly.
try a reuniting site like friendsreunited.com - I use the site friendsreunited.so.uk, and I'm fairly sure they have an American counterpart... if I recall rightly.... They're free to look through, although they do ask a yearly fee of £7.50 if you want to gain access to the emailling service they have.

Unfortunately, I tried that and couldn't seem to track him down. Its like he's just dissapeared in the past 5 years. An alumni search didn't prove too fruitful either, as he went to several different high schools before getting his GED and then ultimately (to the best of my knowledge) didn't finish college...

The only mutual friend I've managed to find of that group of people refuses to talk to me about him. Or at all, for that matter. Its a big, complicated mess compounded by the fact that the last time I was still friends with all of them was 10 yrs ago and was only 15. Trust me, if I could get her to communicate with me it'd be a lot easier--but there's no garauntee she knows where he is either.

I'm trying to do this in a way that won't make me look like a stalker...but so far, no luck.

I'm going to do some more alumni searches for state colleges in FL he may/may not have transferred to...thanks for the advice everyone!!

Here in Wisconsin, if you look up Wisconsin circuit court online, you can usually find someone. This website is for people who broke the law, but even a minor problem like a traffic ticket would be on there. If your friend had anything like that, he'll be on it! Look up your state's circuit court.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check out the FL state circuit court...I'm certain he'll at least have a speeding ticket on record-who doesnt?

On a more positive note, I found a mutual friend today on facebook (hadn't even thought to look there--I've had an account there for awhile now to keep in touch w/ college friends)

I emailed her to say hi and see if she had any idea where he is...and now, I wait!!!

heres a link for you also http://www.zabasearch.com/ this one works pretty good there was a big issue about this last year cause how it found people and gave out to much info now it they changed it a little bit
you type in the name and state and it will bring up phone numbers and address's of the person your looking like i just now type in a friend of mine who has moved quite a few times in the past 10 years and it showed each address,Also when you do the search there may be others named the same as the person your looking for so you might half to do a lot of callings or you might get lucky

hope this helps

Well, believe it or not, I think I've found him!
Turns out the mutual friend who I found on facebook actually does keep in touch with him. He's still living in FL and got married this past winter! It was so relieving to hear he was alive and well and happy!
I emailed her to get his email address, so hopefully I'll hear back from her soon. It was good to talk to her as well, we hadn't talked in 7 years, right around the time the whole group sort of fractured. She and I are going to meet up over Xmas to catch up--I'd love to be able to talk to him before then and we could all go out together. I can't wait to meet his wife, have him meet my husband.

Thanks guys, for all your help and input!

I was going to suggest searching myspace, classmates, and reunion.com. I have an old friend from school who tracked me down through reunion.com and we are emailing back and forth lately.
I have had no luck finding my cousin though.

I've officially found him!!!

I got an email from our mutual friend today with his AIM screenname and a very important piece of info: he has changed his last name!
Turns out, his father was adopted at a young age, and has since located his biological parents, so now the whole family has a different last name!
And, he's definitely still in Florida and definitely married.

Now, I just have to work up the courage to IM him!! Yikes!!

Anyways, our mutual friend Margaret and I are going to meet over XMas for lunch to catch up--turns out she lives in the same town in SC that my sister does.

Life is weird!!!

Thanks everyone for your help!!
