I was wondering if anyone knew the time release properties of perscription food.....

More specifically I was wondering if the first combination of IVD wet and and Hill's S/D dry that Emmet was fed today is working imedietly...or will it begin to take care of the problem after a while of being on this diet.........

Thanx

We were feeding an Rx diet and didn't 'see' any improvements after about two weeks and the vet said that wasn't unusual. He said it does start working before you will see it is working - but didn't say how quickly.

After about 5-6 weeks of not seeing an improvement I switched to a different food that helped more than the Rx diet did and I seen results in a few days - I guess it just depends

Right i was thinking that as well......

But then I was thinking, when you take Vitamin C or even a tylenol it works right away.....

whereas birthcontrol and antibiotics work when the concentration of it becomes high enough in the body........

so i was just wondering........

thanx for the reply though

Ok thanx....

I am hoping this is a 3 day situation rather than a couple of weeks...because emmet needs those crystals to desolve and flush out ASAP

He was actually allergic to certain food colourings - we feed Evo and he is fine with that
and they all actually like it too - turned out the Hills had the colouring he was allergic to so was never going to help him. For some reason he can't keep wet down at all - never has been able to although the vet can't attribute that too anything. They all seem healthy on Evo though so I don't mind paying the extra for it.

Wow allergic to the food colorings that is something that i have never heard of...yet I guess anybody can be allergic to anything........

As for wet food...I know a few people with cats that also can not stomach wet food either.....I am not sure why that is either...but it is interesting

Oh yes...I don't want to eat foods with dyes, and I don't want to feed it to my cats either. Any food I review with dyes gets a negative review from me!

It would depend on the wet food - I bet if you took a look at the ingredients, it is the cat reacting to one or several ingredients that they are sensitive to or it's due to inferior ingredients.

Re your original question - good one to ask your vet or a vet tech at your vet's office, but I honestly think it's a question of 1)preventing further formation of crystals and 2) slowly dissolving and flushing out those still present. The preventing the further formation would begin immediately, but I'm not sure how long it may take to dissolve the crystals already there...my guess? 2 weeks, but I have no real rationale for that guess

No problem, we do have vets and vet tech members here on the board, but I never like to give definite advice if I can't back it up with an article or personal experience at least
