I have three cat's, Trinity, a calico who is about 5 months, Trigger, a Gray tabby Tom between 6 and 7 months, and Stormie who is a beautiful medium long haired light gray tabby. I don't know how old Stormie is, but she is still somewhere in the 5-6 month range, maybe 4 idk. Anyway, Trinity has always taken it upon herself to clean the other cat's ears out, but now they are all getting dirty and I am unsure of the best way to clean them. I'm scared I will hurt them. Trinity would spend an hour or so on each cat cleaning their ears out for them and it was so cute to watch, but lately it hasn't been done and it needs to be. Any suggestions?

don't worry about hurting them if you use a cotton ball and some earmite medicine which you can get pretty cheap at any pet store or wal-martjust follow directions on the box. and most likely it's earmites that are in the cats ears and it does need to taken care of before it gets worst

If you are really nervous about it, you could bring one of your babies into your vets office and they can show you how to clean them the right way.

No please do NOT get medicine from a store or from Walmart! these can be harmful to the pets. Only get medicine from a vet ESPECIALLY for somewhere as sensitive as the ears.

I agree with staying away from walmart type meds... you can usually get good ear cleaning solution from your vet for cheap and you just use some on a cotton ball if youre not experienced with cleaning cat ears... I clean Oliver's twice a month with q-tips, but I'm very experienced with it... your vet can help show you too when you go to get the cleaning solution

Members please do not defame product manufacturers on this board. Any brand name products named and flamed will be removed from this point forward.

If you yourself have a problem with a product- then you contact the product's manufacturer and you take it up with them. I know for me, when it came to my horses last year, a product that I used, caused harm to come to one of my horses. I contacted the company, and not only did they pay for the vet bills but they also rewrote their instructions on how to use this product to make it safer.

Although we are a cat welfare board, we are also sensitive to liability issues. We hope you will understand that and keep to our guidelines.

Thank you-

i use Q-tips dipped in lukewarm water, and i make sure they're just damp, not drippy (don't want water going into Pouncer's ears). they'll clean out dirt pretty well- also, other people suggest for ear mites, baby oil and a cotton ball/Q-tips.
