What kind of *TREATS* do you give your kitty?

My vet is kind of more holistically oriented for lack of a better term and he really stresses a more healthy, "real food" type of diet for cats -- which I agree with for humans as well as pets
. However...of course you knew this was coming...I am having a hard time finding treats that not only my cats will eat but like as much as a "dorito" kind of treats (Pounce, Whiskas, etc)...which my cats LOVE.

True story: I go to this shi-shi pet store and buy these $10 freeze dried chicken treats. Napoleon thinks they are hockey pucks and Cassie could not possibly be BOTHERED with them LOL.

So I throw those out. I buy these chicken/venison jerky treats which cats are supposed to love. Kitties come running for treats, they both look at me like I'm crazy and go back to wherever they were LOL.

So what do you give? Do you have any recommendations for "healthier" treats?

mine like nutro crunchy treats and the new meow mix "drum sticks" tartar control treats. they also like "aquari-yums" treats. mine don't like the healthy treats, aside from the nutro ones. we've tried some of those dried type cat treats but they end up regurgitated on the carpet.

I'm in the same predicament! I want to give him healthy treats, but he only likes the unhealthy treats. He won't eat the dried chunks like salmon, tuna, chicken, or shrimp either. He won't eat the flakey stuff either. I ordered something for him on ebay and the seller put in a pack of treats. I don't even remember what they were now, except that they were unhealthy. I gave them to him anyway because I figured what the heck, they're just treats and OMG he looooooved them. He only gets that excited about his food!

I haven't had any luck finding anything delicious and healthy that he'll eat. He hasn't gotten treats for a while, but he still comes running if I say "treat."
I might just give in and give him 'Doritos.'

i've had the same problem! i got some healthy treats that the vet had (IVD makes them- they are crunchy) and my guys would only eat them after they had had some of the crunchy junk food treats, and were just desperate for *anything* crunchy!!
(they get canned food)

did the vet say if it was ok to give like, a bit of cooked chicken or chicken liver? my guys love chicken liver! but they can't have it too often i think for the same reason ppl are not supposed to have organ meat too often (but darned if can remember what that reason is!)
i sometimes get a can of halibut fillets, they like those but i guess you are supposed to be careful with fish as well.

one of my cats like grated parmesan cheese sprinkled on her food.

another option might be getting a small bag or sample if they have it, of Innova EVO- it is a dry food that is completely grain free, and give a tiny bit of that as treats.

good luck!
i am going back to giving out belly rubs for treats! cheaper and always available!

Ive tried dehydrated salmon which they'll eat.
But with a shelf full of ~$10./bottle "fu-fu" treats collecting dust, i must admit that Ive given up to the Pounce tuna treats from the dollar store.
Those they love and will do anything for. One shake and even the 18 year old geri-cat comes out from hiding.
I just have to remember to say "no" to those cute little furry faces after the 3rd or 4th treat.

I was in the same boat as you
I can't remember the company that makes them, but I use dehydrated chicken hearts (they're still a little oily so they're not completley dry). In the store we have to hide the ones that aren't out on the shelves or the store kitties rip the packages open, so I figured I'd try them with my finnicky pair. I brought some home as a sample in a little paper bag. Within a few minutes of getting home, Buddy was frantically pawing at my purse, trying to get them!! When I found Nya and gave her one, she was equally excited about them. And I was excited to find something they like that's GOOD for them

Harley loves the Whiskas Temptaions too....but whenever I make chicken breasts, I put no seasoning on a little part of one and we share it, he loves chicken!
Oh...and he wont eat the healthy treats either....I've tried...

I have tried so many different kinds - Magnum never ate a treat in his life until i brought home Whiskas Temptations now they have them and feline greenies and turn their noses up at everything else (except Boomer and Scully who get a little roast meat if we cook a roast on Sundays)

Both kitties will be hiding from one another, and nothing like the word "TREATS" to get them out of it LOL

Another thing...Napoleon has a habit of eating Cassie's food if she doesn't finish right away...she is what I call an "installment" eater...she eats enough...walks away...comes back...eats some more...repeats the cycle. Napoleon eats everything and is like "You gonna finish that?"
The other day, I wanted her to eat her wet food, finish it before I went out anyway...so i kept putting it on the counter after she was done...well I went out for some coffee, came back and the food was KILLED! GONE! He jumped on the counter, that little stinker, to finish her food! Your kit jumping on the counter reminded me of Napoleon, he'll go anywhere for a good meal LOL

I have Harley's treats in a little Halloween clear jar on the cupboard and whenever he wants one, he will get up on the counter and stare at the jar and meow until I give him one.....kittens are just too sweet
