My 13 month old neutered male has started peeing (not spraying) on the sofa. He sprayed a bit before he was neutered but has not peed outside the litter box for more than 6 months. What would make him start this now?

When my cat started to do that it was because he had a urinary tract infection. I would take him for a checkup. He could have crystals which can eventually completly block off the flow of urine. It's more common with males than females.

Yes, please do take your boy to the vet. Make sure the vet does a urinalysis to check for blood and/or crystals in the cat's urine. Most often when this type of inappropriate urination happens it is due to a urinary tract infection or blockage.

Let us know what the vet finds.
