IPCBA= International Progressive Cat Breeders' Alliance

Been researching Bengals lately to learn more about them and all because in a few years I would like to get one. I havent ever heard of the IPCBA registry. A breeder's webpage i was surfing tonite listed them as their registry of choice for the cats. This breeder also sells breeding cats with TICA registration papers but not for pet kittens/cats.

The registry was founded in 1996 and seems to be pretty lenient in its rules regarding breeds and their standards, leaving everything up to the breed charters.

I am more familiar with the dog registries as we used to raise GSDs and competed with them. Several very unreputable dog registries have popped up in the last decade that will register almost anything.

Is the IPCBA a registry that is used by the breeders of "new" breeds? Is it reputable/trustworthy?

Thanks in advance!

Still learning!

Well, I've never heard of this one. The most recent American registries of which I've heard are UFO (United Feline Organization) and ICE (International Cat Enthusiasts).

Seeing as how Bengal breeders show in TICA, I would avoid someone who doesn't register his or her pets with that Association.

Can you post a link to the IPCBA?

Thanks.

Well, I see that it wants you to believe that it is the largest registry of pedigreed animals in the world - wonder what CFA would say about that? LOL

Also, although it has supposedly been in existence since 1996, it has no show rules (coming soon according to the site) and only has two breed charters - Bengals and Savannahs - sounds like the place where BYBs of those two breeds would register.

Also, one would have to be totally unfamiliar with the cat fancy to believe that the registry was the only one in which breeders control the fate and everything else about their breeds.

It appears to only be a registry, and ANYONE can start one of those.

Thanks again for the link.

I don't think I would trust anybody except TICA and CFA. I'm even a little leery of ACFA as I'd never even heard of them until fairly recently, although they've apparently been around for a while, they're just lower profile.

ACFA is a perfectly acceptable registry - they have been around since 1957 and, in fact, are responsible for many of the innovations currently employed by other associations, such as multiple rings during a weekend and a household pet class. As a matter of fact, TICA was a spin-off from both CFA and ACFA. ACFA use to be larger, but as new associations have come along, it has lost some of its following. There are a finite number of exhibitors/breeders and many associations from which they can pick. CFF and AACE would also be acceptable.

This looks like a similar registry I saw where the animal needs no pedigree, just a photograph and you can register it as whatever breed it looks like.

I would stick with a major registry like CFA, TICA, or ACFA. Most of the others aren't so national, CFF for example is based in Ohio but only puts on shows on the northeast coast area. That doesn't mean it's a bad regitry, but if you plan on being involved it might not be for you.
