John just went to our vet to pick up the kits perscription food. I guess when he went to the car he heard a rattling, he looked over to find, to his amazement, a squirrle in a trap.....I guess it was bugging out.

So being the animal lover and sweet guy that he was he set the little critter free...a realived but very scared squirel ran off.....

How bizzare I have never heard of trapping squirels...and why would the trap have been in our back parking lot.

Has anyone else seen this before...John says " im going to keep an eye open to see if it gets reset and if i see it set im gonig to unset it"...hes sooo sweeet

Opinions anyone???

Maybe someone wants a pet squirrel. Not really a good idea since they tend to bite...hard.

I can't think of any reason to trap a squirrel that is for any good reason. Bless your husband!, what a sweetheart!

You might check with animal control to see if they are trying to trap one. Perhaps someone in the area got bit and they're looking for rabies?

My Mom used to trap squirrels in her yard. There were many of them and several were getting in the attic. She was concerned about them getting in and chewing electrical cords - or whatever. She began trapping them with a "heart" cage - one that wouldn't harm them. She would then transport them to the woods nearby.

hmmm that makes sense, but our apartment is near a main street, and I dont see many squirels to begin with...except a few that facinate my kits with thier acrobatics from tree to tree......

But you may be right. I think ill look into it, maybe give the landlord a call.

Alot of people trap squirrels and relocate them to parks. If they are nesting in peoples attics, or generally being pests. They sell Squirrel trap cages at any sort of hardware or farm type store.

I doubt they were trying to trap a squirrel. More likely that they were trying to trap a cat or other animal (for TNR) but the trap got the squirrel instead?

I doubt it.. if they were trying to catch a cat they would have put wet food in most likely.. for a squirrel they typically put peanut butter, grapes, apples. And such like that.

EDIT: A squirrel wouldn't go in the trap for canned food.. so..

We have lots of Grey Squirrels behind my parents house... we used to have Red but they are now so rare in the UK. I think some squirrels are under endanger species

Maybe it was a bird lover? I know many bird lovers don't like squirrels....And some squirrels can be really aggressive if people fed over time. While hiking around behind McGill University in Montreal, my ex actually ran from one who was chasing him fiercely once..

Yeah, I was attacked by two squirrels a few years ago.. they were nuts! (lol) They wouldn't stop chasing me until I realised I had a walnut in my hand and threw it at them.. I think they wanted the walnut the whole time.

I got attacked by ducks once. I was carrying flowers and they must have thought it was food. I ended up dropping the flowers and running.
