I'm with you on that one Susie!.

I don't want them knocked over, shot at, any form of abuse, in fights with other cats, or lost

At least i know where they are when their indoors

one of the minority here... both are indoor/outdoor. Always inside at night though.

I wouldnt have it any other way, they love it outside, we have a large property, no predators in the area other than cars, and here in Australia its really the norm to have indoor/outdoor cats...

everyone choose whether they are indoor/outdoor for a reason. No reason is the correct and only reason, every situation is different and should be analysed differently when deciding whether cats should be indoors or both.

Indoor only. Bob came to me as a stray who was on the losing end of a cat fight. I don't want to go through the antibiotics again. Freckles was always an indoor cat when I got him. I live in an apartment building on a busy highway, and a lot of people drive like maniacs through the parking lot. There's no way I'd risk even letting them out on the balcony.

All six of mine are STRICTLY indoor-ONLY!

I love them too much to see them squashed by that freak in the blue pick-up truck; to see them chewed apart by the spooky insane Boxer that runs loose in my neighborhood; or to see them pick up a disease or ... be beaten & killed by the mean teenagers in my neighborhood.

Mine are mostly older cats, given to me or come to me by some circumstance.

K.C. and Snickers used to live in the great outdoors. Man, both were in SUCH bad shape when they found me. They're both healthy beautiful & living long, fat lazy lives now that they're strictly indoor cats!

I live in Suburbia, so naturally, cars/people/neighborhood predators are a concern. Plus well I want them to live as long as possible so that's why I keep them INSIDE.

Indoor only (well, they go outside on the leash and harness sometimes, but never unleashed and unsupervised). I live in a major city in a very urban area on a very busy street at a major intersection, so there would be nowhere for the cats to go other than out into the sidewalk (lined with buildings and shops and very busy) or the street (always lot of traffic) - pretty much it would be a death sentence. Also, I live up in a fourth floor apartment, so there would really be no way for them to get in and out (I could take them down, but how would they let me know when they wanted in?), even if it wasn't so dangerous. That said, even if I lived in a rural area without traffic, I still wouldn't let them out unsupervised - there are just too many dangers, and I would be much too afraid of all the things that could happen to them.

All our cats are indoor only, except for Nakoma, who lives outside in a very secure outdoor enclosure. Nakoma is our rescue Bobcat and he never lived inside. However, now that I have Nakoma's enclosure complete with a secure perimeter fence around it, I can let all our cats out into the perimeter area while we are home. This also gives Nakoma a chance to interact with his own kind, Amber and Boris.

Harley is indoors but last night was a beautiful night and me and John were sitting outside on our deck and Harley was meowing at us thru the patio door so I took him outside and put him in the grass with me. Oh he just loved it!
He chased some butterflies and loved the grass, but he was happy to be back inside, he snuggled right back up into our overstuffed couch and slept all night!
When we were outside he didn't even try to run away or anything--I was quite impressed! I went outside again after that and he didn't even try to get outside again, I was happy!

As Harley grows up, he will want to go out if you take him for visits outside.

I have two inside only cats, Garfield and Festus, and my fosters are always inside only. I don't think I could foster if I had in and out cats...I'm not sure.

I also have outside cats...Will who is in my avatar, adopted us from the dairy farm across the street, and Josie, Jeff, and Captain Feathersword who are adopted ferals. Then there is another feral who just showed up, I had him neutered and named him Tommy. But he is more of a cat who showed up and lives at my house and eats here, than "my cat". And we lost Peaches this year, an adopted feral who got in a fight, probably with a raccoon. I haven't seen her in months, so she is probably gone.

Indoor only. Oliver used to go out with me on a leash, but then he expected to go out all the time. I decided it was too dangerous to keep up. The leash training did come in handy last year when we spent 2 hurricanes in the bar below us.

Tri doesn't want anything to do with going outside. He has a few scars from before we found him and I think something traumatic may have happened when he was a kitten. He'll look out the back windows, but he totally stiffens up if I hold him where he can see the cars on the street.

Your posts make me giggle sometimes.

My girls are indoors, we have no yard and a freeway down the street. When I have a yard someday I may make a little enclosure for them. But for now...

My breeding cats. Benja, Sophie, Holly, Muffin and Bridget are indoor only. Benja(my stud cat) sometimes enjoys an afternoon out and sometimes my queen Sophie does too!

My desexed boy Elmo is indoor/outdoor. We always have a door open at our house and a few windows so he can come in and out as he pleases.

I wouldn't deny my beautiful boy the wonders of mother nature! He loves it! Infact he's sunbathing outside right now!!

I've only ever had outdoor cats, but I couldn't be doing with a cat flap like my friend. Her cats come in at all times through the night, and go straight to her bed. They can bring in all sorts of "trophies".

Oz is in by the time it's getting dark, and stays in through the night.

My daughter has 3 indoor cats, 2 siamese and a devon rex. They seem quite happy. I think it all depends on the cat and the circumstances. They are resticted from certain areas when they aren't there and at night. So they have stimulation at different times.

The Devon Rex by the way won't settle at night till my daughters husband has looked through the landing window with her, at the moths etc flying outside it.
