My dad realized that one of our cats are bleeding... out their bum... my dad thinks it their food. I do not belive it for a second. I don't understand how there could be blood in the pan, and even a drop on the floor from their food. Right now they are trying to find out which cat it is. I think that the cat (when they find out which one) needs to get to the vet ASAP. I'm trying to tell them that i know more about this then they do, but they always have the "we'll wait and see" attitude. I know that cats bleeding like that isnt normal. But, any suggestions on what it could be.

I don't want to scare you but the only time I have ever seen this is when my kitten had FIP.
I had her only 5 weeks when she lost her battle with it.
Hopefully it is NOT this with your kitty, but get her/him to the vet and ask for this test for FIP.

could you please tell me what FIP is? and is it contagious to the other cats?

Very contagious, and unfortunately, the mortality rate is close to 100%.

BUT

Bleeding from the anus does not mean your kitty has FIP. My first thought was a bad case of intestinal parasites. Are they current on veterinary dewormer? Was it over a month ago? If so, chances are, it's worms, especially if kitty has runny stools or diarrhea. Tell your parents to look for who has the reddest anus, and to keep an eye on that kitty. Once they determine what kitty it is, they should bring her/him in for a fecal and deworming. It might be good for them to alert the vet that there are other cat in the house, and to deworm them, too.

Here's what my veterinary manual says about signs of FIP...
"The acute or primary infection often is asymptomatic (showing no signs), but in some cases, fever of unknown origin, conjuctivitis, and other upper respiratory signs, and diarrhea may occur. This stage may last several days or weeks or longer before signs of effusive or noneffustive FIP develop. Cats with effusive FIP are often presented after the owner notices progressive distention of the abdomen due to ascites. Cats with noneffusive FIP have a history of vague illness, including chronic fever, malaise, weight loss, and occasionally major organ system failure." ~~~ Merck Veterinary Manual Ninth Edition

So, in my opinion, it doesn't sound like FIP, but parasites to me. But, nevertheless, your parnets should get kitty to the vet, because I am not a vet, of course, and no one can tell without examinations or tests.

That's good.

That's probably the first thing your vet will say, too.

It could be different things! Once my cat swallowed a feather off of one of his toys.. and I noticed he was bleeding out of his anus.. so the vet said it was from the feather. One of my cats with that symptom had coccidiosis, another intestinal parasites.. and I just went through two dogs having bloody stools and it was coccidiosis.. so the only real way to tell is to take it to the vet. Good Luck!
