OMG, I held 4 week old persian kittens last night! They were absolutely adorable!!!

They are in a small pet store in town with two 8 week old kittens and mom cat. Their mother unfortunately rejected them so they were brought to the store to the mother (of the 8 week old kittens) who is now taking care of them as her own.

Tiny little puffs of fur, they were! Fit into the palm of my hand.

Now...makes me want to get another kitty...if Cody would allow it!

Soooo....which do you think Cody (4 year old female) would take to more - a kitten or a cat the same age as her?

If you get a kitten then you'll hopefully only have one cat to adjust, the kitten should accept Cody fine, it's whether or not Cody can accept the kitten! With an older cat, you'd have to get them both to accept each other. On the other hand, a kitten may be too playfull for Cody and annoy her!

Oh absolutely the kitten.
I had that same question with Eponine. She was about 3 1/2 when I adopted Cosette and, until then, had NEVER gotten along with another cat. But I figured something smaller and less intimidating may work.
If it's a small kitty and you follow all of the great tips on this site as far as the introductions go, new kitten and Codygirl should become fast friends
.
Can't wait to hear what you decide

Now did Eponine immediately take to Cosette? Or did it take a while? Did she hiss and stuff at first? See Cody is spoiled brat and I don't want it to make her less friendly than she already is. But I think she could use a little brother!

oh Susan, it would be wonderful!!! Yes it may take Cody some time to get used to a new brother, but I am sure if you were patient and followed all the tips then surely it would work out - I say GO FOR IT!!!

I fretted over getting Holly (it was an unexpected purchase, the breeder needed to sell ASAP because she was moving & couldn't take her) and how she & Mika would get along. Now, Mika was only a few months older and had only been here three months, but in that time he had become a spoiled baby who got all of our attention all the time and lapped it up. I was worried he'd get mad at us and he did for several days, but it was fine. It's only been a couple of months and since her spay (and the removal of that horrid collar), they've established the chain of command and everything's great...

She's already his little sister that he can chase and pick on and play with... and steal food from... but they have fun and cuddle. She's WAY more petite than he is, so she'll always be his little sister

I had the same worry with Christy, my daughter's cat, who switches between living at my parents' and with us (since she goes wherever my daughter is). Christy did not care for Icy 2 years ago, but last year, I adopted 2 kittens. That has worked out great! When the kittens are too rambunctious, Christy quickly puts them in their place and they still have each other to romp with. So, just based on my experience, 2 kittens was the best way to do it. If you didn't want to pay for two purebreds, you might be able to get a "regular" cat (like my guys are) from the county shelter in addition to one Persian. Just make sure that Cody realizes that she is "Queen Cat", just now she'll have a cortege!

Hee, hee!
Now you guys got me seriously thinking about it now! The Persians were definitely cute but they were $499! EEK! And the only male there was already taken. Figures, right. Cody didn't even freak out and hiss when I got home with the kitten smell on me. That's definitely a start!

So I still have to talk the other half into it...he's not liking the idea as of yet!
BUT last week, I emailed a couple places on Petfinder...and both kitties I inquired about were adopted already!!!
So, I'm going to keep looking...and if it's meant to be, it will be. I'm leaning towards a full grown kitty though...might be less jealousy for Cody.

I have always had multiple cats. I think Cody would love another pet. When I brought Megan and Mama in my eldest was 14 or 15 , so 3.5 is more than perfect. I don't know if you read her posts, but Stephanie's Sierra and little Serenity are getting along well. I think it's nice to get a kitten with a younger cat because the kitten usually brings out the "kitten" in the adult cat, too

Surprisingly, it really only took Eppie that first week (when they were segregated) and a day or two the following week (when they were around each other most of the time) to warm up. After that, they were great and things get better.

Yesterday, for example. Cosy got a claw stuck in part of the window sill (long story) and she cried out in pain. Eppie immediately ran to her and began nuzzling her as if to comfort her little sister
. Trust me, if my snooty little Eppie can be this affectionate to a kitten, so can Cody

I sure hope she'll accept a little brother like your Eppie!! I'm going on vac the end of Aug so I won't think about getting a new family member until after so I really have time to spend with them. Thank you everyone for your replies!

Festie does not like new cats very well. She is still hissing at poor Sugartoes, who never hisses or growls back. I think you might have better luck with a kitten for the second cat, then it isn't as threatening to the resident "queen".

And you will get a better quality purebred if you go through a breeder. Or a nice Moggie by going to adoption days at Petsmart on saturdays.

Yep, I did go to Petsmart! I found a nice little gray tabby named Thor. (Can ya tell I've been thinking about this for a while?!) I hope he's still there but I know they have a lot of kitties that need homes at the Delaware Humane Association. I just pray that Cody will accept this new buddy and not get more ornery than she already is!
I would looooove to come home one day and find them playing or snuggling together. I don't know what I would if it makes her hate me. I would feel like such a bad Mommy. That is my dilemma!
