My nearly 1 year old kitten, Izzy, is driving me insane.

She is such a good cat. Very friendly and never destructively scratches anything. But when she uses her litter box she goes absolutely nuts trying to "bury" her mess. Using litter pan liners is pointless for me because she pulls them from the sides and rips holes in them. She scratches at anything she can reach around her litter box after using it. The walls, garments hanging in my closet, ANYTHING. She will be in her box for up to a half hour just scratching around her. The sound in unbearable. Especially when her claws get the walls.

She mostly uses her litter box at night, and recently sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s been waking me up. We just moved into a new place (she is handling it very well), but I don't sleep as soundly in my new home. I can't move her litter box because I have roommates and she is my cat, so it's my mess and smell to deal with, not theirs.

Is this normal behavior? I know cats want to bury their waste, but she seems to try to overdo it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Alfie will often scratch the carpet outside the litter box as if it's going to help cover the 'mess', but he doesn't do it for long. He also tries to scratch the lino covered kitchen floor to cover his food after eating

Does Izzy have enough litter to properly cover with? Is the pan deep enough and tall enough? Have you tried a covered tray? Different litter, maybe the one you're using doesn't cover the smell enough?

I've tried switching brands of litter and all different types of pans. We had a covered one for awhile, but the dust got to her and caused her poor little face to swell up! I took the lid off of it, so now its just a really deep pan.

I JUST ran out of litter today, but later I'll go buy more and see if putting more in the box helps.

Thanks! Hope this works. If not, ear plugs at night it is!
