It was sitting nicely on the plant on top of the fridge/freezer in the kitchen Lucky I found it before Guin did otherwise it would be

Oh, then when I put it on my hand it was all sticky and wouldn't jump off. I tried to put it on the window sill outside but it just kept on sticking to my hand!

Is it a grasshopper?

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. I don't know what that is but I can tell you that bugs that look like leaves, sticks, or anything else in nature freak me out more than anything (except roaches)!! I have this fear that I won't realize that "leaf" is a bug and will touch it and just UGH. You're brave.

Awwww ... poor little guy. I think he's kinda cute.

I wonder how he got in?, have you had the windows open?
I don't know, but he's kinda cute.
The bugs that really freak me out are spiders.

They were open but the blinds have been closed so I think he might have been there since yesterday cos he felt all sticky. He's still on the window sll outside now and has not hopped off or anything. Maybe he's dying?

He looks ok?. Maybe he's just stopping for a breather?!

What if you put him in amongst next doors jungle because he'd love it there, because thats bound to be where he can get his food?!

Errr I tried to get him on the tree outside the window but then he hopped off my hand... hope he didn't splatter on the concrete? Going to investigate!
maybe it's cooler inside than out... he's kinda sweet though. Looks very much like a grasshopper to me.... apart form the tail business...

Does this look similar (the one on the right)?

http://strano16.interfree.it/epic29.htm

It's a larval Meditteranean Katidid (I think....)

Actually, I think it is a grasshopper! I just went outside and found it on the concrete - all limbs intact and okay. It then hopped onto my leg! It must love me

Then, I set it free into the bushes cos Guin had come running out of knowhere to investigate! In this pic, you can see that he is the same colour as the leaves and stuff, what a lovely, vivid green!

Aw, I kinda like him Looks like a grasshopper to me.
Bugs don't, well, bug (Oh, I know- HORRIBLE pun!) me except for COCKROACHES!!!!

It's some species of katydid.
We had a some windy nights last week, and a European Praying Mantis nymph (introduced species) ended up on my patio.

The back yard isn't at all bug friendly, so I've got him in a bug container and have been feeding him until his wings come in.
Once he can fly, I'll set him loose so he can go mate.

He's bugged off now. I just went outside to have a look and he's gone...

Reading some of the replies that he's cute, well I actually agree with you!
I agree with Arlyn, it's a katydid or something very similar. Our katydids bite, just a nasty pinch, but I'm sure glad yours didn't! Katydids are cousins to grasshoppers, cockroaches & crickets, and they eat smaller bugs, including relatives! My cats have tried eating them, but I guess they just aren't as tasty as moths!

Ooh. I have been freaked out by those a couple of times. I'm not afraid of the bug itself, but when its like 10pm and you are reading a book or something, and all the sudden something starts chirping, it kind of freaks you out!!! I think that is the same bug but this one is younger because it doesnt have big wings on it.

I thought katydids were these fat brown... beetle/fly like things O_O but maybe I'm thinking of something else??

That bug looks even prettier once it gets its wings

KNOW WHAT ARE COOL BUGS??????

Mealworms in their pupae stage!!!!!

They look like that one pokemon thing called a Kakuna or something O_O Thats what it reminds me of. It is cool to watch them go from pupae stage to beetle stage. I love to watch them. They just wiggle their bums for hours and hours, and finally the skin breaks off and they start moving their new legs and pushing the outside cover off, and then the wings start to move back until its a little white bug, and then it starts to turn brown. Its coolness.

Mealworms??? Cute??? To each her own!!! I'd take a cute little katydid over a mealworm any ole day!

You want to see something really weird? I'll see if I can get a pic of the huge, green, horned worms stripping my tomato plants in the garden. Trouble is, they're hard to spot, as they blend in with the plants perfectly! I'll give it a try, though. I found 3 yesterday, and there are probably more. *shudder

You brave girl, oh Great Bug Rescuer!!
