My husband and I adopted 2 kittens about a week and a half ago. For the first couple of days, they were just fine, until they started suckling our new, soft, furry blanket. We thought it was cute, but very hard to sleep, especially when they kept on doing it! We took away the fuzzy blanket, and one evening brought it out, thinking Juniper might just suckle there. Which she did, for about an hour, with an almost obsessive vengeance. It was rather nuts!

At about the same time as when we brought out the fuzzy blanket, our other kitten, Magellan, started self-suckling her own nipples. She hardly ever suckles cloth or anything, just herself. Last night she did it almost all night, in various spots on our bed - very hard to sleep. She doesn't seem to do it too much during the day. We are hoping this is just a phase and that Magellan will eventually grow out of it.

They were with their mother til at least 8 weeks, maybe even a bit longer, and they aslo seem to be settling in to our home pretty well, minus the suckling. :p Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would get a bottle of bitter apple and dampen a cotton ball and rub this on her about twice a day. I would also look into a snugglekittie because this kitten clearly needs to be comforted and was taken from mom either by nature or man way to early.

She was with her mom for the first 2 to almost 3 months, and now has her sister with her.
