Hey! I just joined the site tonight and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Heather, a 21 year old Penn State student (Go Lions!) majoring in German language. I currently live with my 3.5 year old orange tabby-cat, Oliver, a 10 gallon tank of freshwater fish and a 10 gallon tank of hermit crabs... I also have an 11-year-old black lab named Cuddles that lives in Jersey with my parents.

Oliver was originally a stray, wondering around the main campus of Penn State. He is the sweetest and most sociable cat, I couldn't refuse him! He's got beautiful orange coloring, with a white-tipped tail and a tiny chunk out of the top of his left ear. Unfortunately, he is an FIV positive kitty, but fortunately, you'd never know it! He's as happy as can be and I've never had trouble with his FIV. WIth his personality, I think he thinks he is a dog! He comes running to greet me at the door, begs at the dinner table and is by no means one of those independent, "I don't need my humans" type of cat. He loves getting his monthly bath and frequently sports a PennState bandanna around his neck. As with all of my animals, he's as spoiled as anyone could imagine! I think he's got more toys than I ever had as a kid! He believes he's the king of everything and will readily push me off the bed or lay on my keyboard while I'm typing. His only big behavioral problem was scratching, which I quickly and effectively solved with nail caps (I'm highly against declawing, having assisted on many a declaw surgery).

As for the rest of the zoo, Oliver loves to watch his "little brothers and sisters": Shark Bait, the 5" goldfish; Bailey, Ameretto, and Jose the black skirt tetras; Romeo and Juliet the white skirt tetras; and Maggie Mae, Tristain Parker, Karston Koen, Hunter Keegen, and Julianna Tarin the hermit crabs.

Anyhow, I've rambled long enough (Can you tell I love bragging about all my babies?
) Hopefully I'll be able to offer some helpful advice to some of you... I've had experience working in both an Animal Hospital and a shelter and was originally an Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine major.
