US Southerners... stay safe through this hurricane, and if you get hit, as soon as you get power, let us know you're safe, please. If Dennis will hit towards me, it will be sometime Saturday, and if I'm not on for a few days you know either:

1) I got hit, and the power is out, and I can't get online.

2) I got hit, and I'm too busy cleaning up, helping out, etc....

Just wanted to wish everyone well through this one.

Sorry but I don't find your humor funny at the moment. To much devastation in the world to make light of anyone dying.

I assure you, I wasn't trying to "make light" of anyone dying.... believe me, I hate what's going on in this world today, but I can't let it effect me. Trust me, things aren't terrific over here, either, and if I can't joke (And I'm sure all know I'm joking), what can I do? I joke so that I don't dwell on the bad that's happened, or happening.

Folks here are hoping for Dennis to bring much needed rain. Arlene brought us our last good rain - a month ago. We are DRY!

I'm worried. I have loved ones in Florida and Texas. Vibes toward everyone in that area. Stay safe, Cassie.

Thanks all! I'm sure I'll be fine... I'm in the middle of Florida. I hope everyone else will stay safe!

I just hope everyone in the path of this monster is safe. We are in Louisiana, and don't want it over here, but I don't wish it anywhere else either. I hope everyone stays safe the next few days and this hurricane doesn't do any damage.

I have been paying close attention to this storm. My personal opinion is that it is going to hit Appalachicola (sp?). The pressure system they originally thought was going to steer it to the west is not as strong as originally suspected, allowing it to move towards the east once it gets up into the Gulf. BUT, like I said that's just my personal theory
The east side is the worst weather so unfortunately it looks like Florida isn't going to miss it. We are in Jax and will most likely get some of the feeder bands going through, guess we have to watch for tornadoes

Stay safe everyone! We get the occasional hurricane here but my husband's grandparents whent through last years in Tampa. Fortuanatley his Grandmother now lives in TN with his mother since his grandfather has passed away.
I pray this years hurricane season is much better than last for you all down that way.

Our local forecaster is likening this to Ivan
. You would think that being 300 miles from the coast that we wouldn't have too much to worry about ... BUT ... our house is about 25' from the headwaters of a creek that I swear drains half the county, and there is a hugemongous ash tree (Sunny calls it "Yggdrasil"
) about 20' from the house. It's the flooding that's a constant worry for us. I'm told that the water's never gotten into the house (we bought this house from the in-laws) but it is NOT FUN sitting watching the floodwaters rise until there is at least a couple of feet of water totally surrounding your house and wondering if THIS is the time it's going to rise over the threshold!!

Best wishes and good luck to all in the way of the season's storms.

Sending good vibes to my fellow Southern TCSers along the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic coat, and inland. I have family in Tampa and Orlando (not to mention that I live along the coast!), so this is always a scary time of year for us!

Well, I might need to withdraw my previous post. The 11am update pushes the storm further to the west of Florida. That high pressure system in the Atlantic off Florida's coast is strengthening which will steer it away. These storms are just so unpredictable
