My kitten room is smelly! I have Sugartoes, the Momma cat, who seems to regularly wet and poo once daily in her litterbox. The babies go at various times, usually in the low litterbox. I find occasional poos on the floor, but clean them up promptly. I scoop both litterboxes daily.

They have dry food available all day, and Sugartoes gets a can of moist once a day. I know they are in a small room (8 by 15 feet), but don't understand why it is so smelly! Does anyone else have this problem?

OK, what I do is this: I use my steam cleaner but instead of using the regular carpet shampoo in it, I use Dreft Baby Laundry detergent (I like the liquid). I don't put much in there because I don't want it to get too sudsy, but my cleaner holds a gallon of water (it is a small one) so I use about a quarter of the capfull. If it gets too sudsy, there is an anti-sudsing agent (I think Rug Doctor makes it) that you can add to keep the bubbles down.

I shampoo the entire carpet with this solution and afterwards, the room smells clean and fresh again. I also use it with hot water to wipe down the walls and woodwork.

Baby Laundry detergent is specifically designed to removed odors from diapers - I use it because my house will sometimes get to smelling like stud spray and GAWD! That stuff will gag you! The baby detergent works and works well.

Best of luck,

~gf~

Thanks, Gayef. I don't have a steamer, but will be on vacation next week and will rent one to clean the carpet. I want to be sure they grow up to be neat, clean kitties, not little stinkers!

The rest of the house is ok, I have limited keeper kitties, only 2. But I will go ahead and deep clean the living room where I used to have a litter box, just in case.
