Yesterday I posted about my Emma's dried up nipple...well I took her to the vet today and it seems that the nipple has been torn or ripped somehow and the gland itself is very hard and swollen. The vet thinks it's most likely mastitis and thinks that the nipple injury could have been an old one that was exacerbated by the pregnancy/milk engorgement.
Anyhoo...vet put Emma on Clavamox and I'm to keep an eye on the kittens for diarrhea. She told me to look for the kittens losing interest in nursing, not nursing for as long and for a wet bottom/tail from Emma cleaning them so much as evidence of any diarrhea. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Any advice? Thoughts? Experience??
