i have 2 kittens i am raising right now. they are almost 4 weeks old. one of them has been suckling on the others genitals.
i read a post in here in which several people said it was bad to seperate them and its normal.
i went to the vet and that is not true!!
DONT LET YOUR KITTENS SUCK ON EACHOTHERS GENITALS!
it can ruin the poor kittens penis and cause damage to the urethra! some kittens have to have surgery on it!
so if you aren't watching them seperate them! or get some bitterapple spray and put it on a cotton ball and swipe the genital area with it!

I don't recall reading anything about it being OK for kittens to such each other on their genitals. In fact on the kitten rescue site it says the following:

Kitten Suckling
Sometimes, if you are caring for two or more kittens, one of the kittens may try to suckle on the genitals of the others. Although this is a common behaviour, it can alarm some people and it is important that it stops. If the suckling kitten ingests feces or urine, the kitten could become ill. Suckling also has the potential of damaging the genitals of the kitten being suckled on. Never separate the kitten from the others as the warmth and closeness of his siblings is very important. There are several things that you can do:

The kitten may be doing this because he is hungry. Try giving him more formula at each feed.
Give him a stuffed toy that he can suckle on instead.
Take a small piece of soft cloth, bunch it up and tie it tightly with some cotton string so it stays bunched up. Make sure there is no excess string hanging down that the kitten could choke on. Dip the cloth in a solution made with warm water and a little honey mixed together. Squeeze out the excess water well and place this next to the kitten for him to suckle on.
Dab a little bit of vinegar or bitter apple on the genitals of the other kittens, being careful to avoid the urinary opening.

i was trying to start something
you dont need to prove anything to me
i was just posting that because i let my babies do it and i shouldn't have

Your post was very confusing....the way I read it was that you had read something here on this site that it was ok to let them suckle each other....which from all the posts I have read isn't true. The information I posted is still very good information for anyone who is new and has the same experience.

As Katie said, your post was confusing. Do not bring attitude to this board please when people are trying to educate and help others. I do not recall anywhere on this board where it has been left unchallenged to let kittens suckle each other. You separate them so they can't get to each other, or you substitute something else instead of a littermate for them to suck on. Suckling is not a good idea for newborn kittens.

For what ever it is worth, I learned something today and I thank all of you for that. I myself have never seen kittens do that, they always seem to suckle on my Big male cat chucky's Belly - He actually helped bring up all the other babies I have except buddy. I know my family and friends do have cats and if they ever get kittens I will be sure to let them know about the information that has been posted here today. Thank you

I did read on this site... try going to yahoo.com and search kittens suckling eachother... your site pops up with a thread... i just re-read it and it is from 2004 i believe.
i did not bring attitude. i felt like i was being attacked. i was posting the same thing you did about kitten rescue. on my first post i stated it was bad and to use bitterapple or whatever. then you repeated it... making it seem like you were rubbing something in my face. if i posted "moist means something damp" then you posted in reply "well actually moist does mean something damp"... it doesn't make sense... right??? its just repeating the original context? making it unnescessary
im sorrry for the confusion.
i was NOT trying to aggrivate anyone... in fact i thought you were being touchy to me.
so sorry for me being defensive...

Actually...what I posted gave more options than what you had listed....and again, this forum has many visitors that should be aware of the other things that you can do....more feedings, providing a stuffed animal etc. Those things were not in your post.
