I haven't seen my old boy Larry for 4 days now. Larry's mom showed up at my house with 3 kittens in the spring of 1994, dropped them off and left. I caught Larry when he was young, had him neutered, but was never able to tame him.

When he was younger (age 3-6 years), he used to wander off for long periods of time - one time for about 18 months and other times for a few months at a time. He was extremely cross eyed (we called him "Cross Eyed Larry" for those that appreciate Jethro Tull) and knew that his vision was not the best. When he hit about 6 years old, we were not surprised to find that he decided that living near the relative safety of our house was better for him. He lived mainly under the front porch and would come out to eat and sun himself. He rarely hunted as I don't think he could see that well to hunt.

In the 11 years that I've known him, he only allowed me to touch him since last fall when another long time feral (Blackie) crossed. After that, he would allow a few pets here and there in the morning when I came out to feed them. Other than that he was a true feral cat with no human contact his entire life.

I've searched the area for him and have not found him. He stuck so close to home for the last 6 years that I know in my heart that he has crossed. The winter was harder on him than past years and he had been losing weight and his coat was not as thick and shiny as it had in the past. Last month my husband and I discussed that Larry's time may be coming this year.

I wish I had a better picture of Larry's eyes. People who actually saw him always asked if he was part siamese since they were so crossed. Here's a picture of my boy. I can only hope that he crossed in peace like Blackie did last fall.

RIP my Cross Eyed Larry boy. We had a good 11 years together!

AW! Larry was so cute! I love cross-eyed kitties, they look so sweet!

I'm so sorry to hear about Larry, but he's in a better place now. You two sounded like good friends.

Oh now, 4 days for a feral is not unusual especially this time of year! He could come waltzing into your yard any minute now, after chasing delightful scents in the air. Don't be so quick to give up on him and consider him gone- My hope is you jumped the gun here and he has not passed and you will see him soon-

O-H-I-O!
Oscar was a feral before we got him and he was missing for almost a month before we noticed he was hiding in our neighbor's barn in the winter! Now he has a nice warm home. So just pray for him to be ok. I'm sure everything will work out for you! Hope everything is ok.

The last 3 days I was hoping the same, then thinked back over his time with us the last 6 years. He has never once missed a daily feeding in 6 years, even with spring in the air. A side of me is hoping that I've jumped the gun, but my intuition and heart tells me otherwise. I'm hurt but not devastated as I know that I did the best that I could for this guy and he lived as good a life as can be expected for him. This was not unexpected.

My hope with posting about my older ferals is that people realize that if you take the time to fix these cats, they can live a long life, even when living outside and you can never touch them to fully treat their medical needs.

Everyone please send vibes that I'm wrong about this.

I really hope you are wrong and Larry comes home soon. He is such a beautiful boy. If Larry's time here has ended, thank god he had someone like you to keep an eye over him. He is looking down on you now smiling.

Hoping that Larry comes back, but if he has passed on it's good to know that you took care of him and that he was content and pleased with his life.

What a lovely boy Larry was. I am very sorry for your loss. What a great job you did of caring for Cross-Eyed-Larry on his terms! I am with you on hoping you are wrong, and Larry will be home soon!

It sounds like Larry had a good life when he found you. Where ever he is I am sure he is thinking about you and watching over you. My toughts are with you at this time.

Larry is still missing. Yesterday when my husband was cleaning out the back barn (a couple hundred yards behind the house and since we don't use it for anything we don't go back there very often), he found the remains of a cat. One that he hadn't seen before - may have come from the neighbors that live about a quarter mile behind us. Poor baby!

Now I'm hoping that there isn't another predator out there going after the cats. We had a bad issue with that 2 summers ago and 6 feral cats disappeared in a short time.

*sigh*

Oh poor Larry
I hope wherever he is that he is happy and will come home soon. Or if he has crossed then he will know that he had the last years of his life very happy

Larry was such a beauty! I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure he loved you very much, enough to save you the grief of watching him pass on if indeed he has. Please take comfort in remembering how much you loved him all these years.
