Hi all-

Is it possible for cats to have nasal allergies? It is the season now and my poor husband is suffering. Our cat Toaster has also been having these unexplained sneezing bouts. Every day or every other day for the last week, he'll have a very long sneezing bout-- 9 or 10 sneezes in a row. Sometimes after that his eyes are a bit watery. Other than that, he seems fine. His brother, Floco, does not have any of these symptoms. Could Toaster be allergic to the pollen and stuff? (they do go outside)

Thanks!

Both of my cats experience seasonal allergies - here in Atlanta we have horrific pollen in the spring, and the ragweed/hay fever season at the end of the summer does them in as well. They don't go outside, but when it was really bad and we left the windows open, they would each have sneezing fits. Those have passed, but Teddy would sneeze at least 10 times in a row, PJ would just let out a giant sneeze and have the sniffles. We thought they had URI's, but it resolved and the vet said they simply had allergies!

Now, if only mine would resolve as quickly and easily as theirs....

Thanks Shambelle! Did you give them anything for the allergies, like "cat-benadryl"? Or did they just deal with it?

I came on here looking for info and found this! My cat has been having bouts that sound similar to yours Gatinha. Does your cat have distinctive sneezes? My cat almost sounds like a dog stuck in a reverse sneeze. It sounds all nasal but I'm bringing him in monday for a check up just in case. I'm wondering if he'll need a round of sterioids or something. Poor guy

It is not at all uncommon for kitties to have seasonal allergies. Depending on the severity, your vet may prescribe some steroids to block the allergens through the allergy season. Sometimes it helps to bathe kitty using a hypoallergenic shampoo since it has been discovered that some allergens are absorbed through the skin. You may want to keep Toaster indoors or at least limit his time outdoors until the allergies subside.

Cheers.
