Does he own a cat, personally? If so, what kind and what is the cat's name? Is there a picture? Someone, write the Vatican and find out!

I recall seeing an article some time ago (National Geographic?) about the Vatican and there was a series of photos about one of the cats. It showed him coming down a hall and opening the door to a kitchen.
How else can you enter a kitchen?

You meant "kitten" right?

I don't know why I'm so hung up on this topic. I'm not even Roman Catholic.

Please follow this link to a sweet article about the new Pope and his love of cats: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansas...d/11454967.htm

Here's one part:
"I went with him once," said Konrad Baumgartner, the head of the theology department at Regensburg University. "Afterwards, he went into the old cemetery behind the church.

"It was full of cats, and when he went out, they all ran to him. They knew him and loved him. He stood there, petting some and talking to them, for quite a long time. He visited the cats whenever he visited the church. His love for cats is quite famous."

And another part:
"Oh, cats," she said. " He loves them."

She pointed up a staircase to a wall full of painted plates, each depicting a different cat. The brothers collected the plates together, she said.

"When we were on vacation, a cat, a little kitten, would come by, and he'd be giddy, almost giggling with joy," she said." Cats love him; they always go to him straight away. And he loves them back."

Ermm, I think you should know that, that title is using a short form. "Cat" does not mean
the meowing cat. It means Catholic Church or Catholic.

Of course, you're right. Sometimes my brain does not fully engage: An Introduction to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I'm sure that's the complete title. I'll try and fixate on something else for awhile!

I was in Rome this week - right near the Vatican too, but I didn't see any cats

The Italians have apparently nicknamed the new pope Paparatzi (it's like the Italian word for the journalists who follow famous people everywhere)
