Well, it FINALLY happened. After four years of cycling I had my first crash today. Actually, to put it more accurately - I was hit by a car.
I am ok...pretty shaken up. Went to the ER and checked out ok...some idiot in a truck hit me on base today as I was heading out for my morning training ride. My elbow is pretty bruised and bloody...and I can tell that I am going to be S-O-R-E tomorrow.
I can say I am now a member of the "Thank God I had My Helmet on Club" (I would never ride without one) It is amazing what goes through your mind when you feel your head bounce off concrete. I am thankful. It could have been much worse.
My bike is another story...my poor baby!!

Ok...I feel better now. And yes...I got extra cuddles from the boys...

ooh Sarah - that's gotta hurt, you're elbow's going to be stiff tomorrow. I'll send lots of vibes your way.
Make sure those boys give you plenty of cuddles. YAY!! for wearing your helmet!

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your concern, guys. Yep...the helmet was on and did it's job. I would never, NEVER ride without one. It can make the difference between walking away or relearning the alphabet...or worse.
As far as being careful...the hubby doesn't want me riding alone anymore. Things should be pretty fun in the Scozzaro household for a while...

Thanks!

*sigh* The elbow is already stiff...I don't even want to think that it is going to be worse tomorrow!
It is a bummer, too...as it is my right and I am right handed...so my left hand is getting to do all of the work...meaning SLOW typing...

and thank goodness the boys were there to make mummy feel a lot better
The boys did an amazing job of making their mum feel better. They spent the day with me in bed giving me loads of cuddles.

I am glad to know that you are okay, and the damage wasnt any greater than it is! Take it easy and rest up...your husband is probably right, you should have a cycle buddy just for precaution.
Thank goodness you are ok, and take care of yourself!

Thankfully your elbow sustained most of the injury... and good for you for wearing a helmet! Cyclists that don't wear helmets are NUTS, in my opinion.

I wear a full face helmet and am always jeaned/leathered to the max while on my scooter... But I'm waiting for the day when some stupid ass driver in a huge SUV doesn't see my scoot and I become one with the ashphalt.

holy cow! bless your heart! that's very scary! Your situation is not funny at all, but my friend's situation was. She goes to Purdue, a big college in Indiana here in the states, and she was riding her bike to class freshman year and hit a girl who was walking. haha! No one got hurt, but how funny does that sound! (she wasn't going very fast either).

I made fun of her so much for that...and then she calls me like 2 weeks later and she hit a boy who was also on a bike. HAHA!!! Someone should really take her bike away from her!

This is actually quite a serious thing for cyclists and pedestrians alike!
I have a cyclist friend who has been hit no less than 5 times..and as a pedestrian, I have been hit at least twice.
The last time, I kicked the guy's car so hard (it was a benz or something similiar to make things worse...) and when I started yelling, he began rolling up his window and telling me that he was calling police!! I couldn't believe the nerve.
I wanted to wait around and tell them what an idiot he was.

Glad you are ok!

OMG, that's so frightening! Thank God you're okay! Riding a bike here is no fun at all...dodging cars, people who open their car doors, too many people, so I've basically given up riding.

I'm so glad you had your helmet on
. Are you sure you're okay? How many fingers am I holding up?
