Ouch

Well, it FINALLY happened. After four years of cycling I had my first crash today. Actually, to put it more accurately - I was hit by a car. I am ok...pretty shaken up. Went to the ER and checked out ok...some idiot in a truck hit me on base today as I was heading out for my morning training ride. My elbow is pretty bruised and bloody...and I can tell that I am going to be S-O-R-E tomorrow. I can say I am now a member of the "Thank God I had My Helmet on Club" (I would never ride without one) It is amazing what goes through your mind when you feel your head bounce off concrete. I am thankful. It could have been much worse.
My bike is another story...my poor baby!!
Ok...I feel better now. And yes...I got extra cuddles from the boys...

Oh geez, Sarah! I'm so glad you're okay and that you were wearing a helmet! I'm sorry for your bike... please be careful!

OMG! that's scary!

I have to tell you, sometimes people drive like they have two left feet and two left legs

Oh no Sarah!!! That's horrible!! I hope the proper actions are taken against the truck that hit you. Thank goodness you had a helmet on!!!!

ooh Sarah - that's gotta hurt, you're elbow's going to be stiff tomorrow. I'll send lots of vibes your way. Make sure those boys give you plenty of cuddles. YAY!! for wearing your helmet!

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your concern, guys. Yep...the helmet was on and did it's job. I would never, NEVER ride without one. It can make the difference between walking away or relearning the alphabet...or worse.
As far as being careful...the hubby doesn't want me riding alone anymore. Things should be pretty fun in the Scozzaro household for a while...

Thanks!

*sigh* The elbow is already stiff...I don't even want to think that it is going to be worse tomorrow! It is a bummer, too...as it is my right and I am right handed...so my left hand is getting to do all of the work...meaning SLOW typing...

The boys did an amazing job of making their mum feel better. They spent the day with me in bed giving me loads of cuddles.

Oh Sarah....

I am glad to know that you are okay, and the damage wasnt any greater than it is! Take it easy and rest up...your husband is probably right, you should have a cycle buddy just for precaution.
Thank goodness you are ok, and take care of yourself!

Jesús, Sarah!!! are you OK? no broken nothing? only your proud? ... best wishes for you!

Wow, I'm glad you're okay, I'm sending you lots of vibes, I hope you feel better.

Thankfully your elbow sustained most of the injury... and good for you for wearing a helmet! Cyclists that don't wear helmets are NUTS, in my opinion.

I wear a full face helmet and am always jeaned/leathered to the max while on my scooter... But I'm waiting for the day when some stupid ass driver in a huge SUV doesn't see my scoot and I become one with the ashphalt.

holy cow! bless your heart! that's very scary! Your situation is not funny at all, but my friend's situation was. She goes to Purdue, a big college in Indiana here in the states, and she was riding her bike to class freshman year and hit a girl who was walking. haha! No one got hurt, but how funny does that sound! (she wasn't going very fast either).

I made fun of her so much for that...and then she calls me like 2 weeks later and she hit a boy who was also on a bike. HAHA!!! Someone should really take her bike away from her!

ack, Sarah!! I am so glad you are ok. lots of feel better vibes coming from me, Eb and Lilly.

This is actually quite a serious thing for cyclists and pedestrians alike!
I have a cyclist friend who has been hit no less than 5 times..and as a pedestrian, I have been hit at least twice.
The last time, I kicked the guy's car so hard (it was a benz or something similiar to make things worse...) and when I started yelling, he began rolling up his window and telling me that he was calling police!! I couldn't believe the nerve.
I wanted to wait around and tell them what an idiot he was.

Glad you are ok!

Oh Sarah! I'm sorry to hear this! Thank goodness you are OK! Sorry to hear about your bike.

OMG, that's so frightening! Thank God you're okay! Riding a bike here is no fun at all...dodging cars, people who open their car doors, too many people, so I've basically given up riding.

I'm so glad you had your helmet on . Are you sure you're okay? How many fingers am I holding up?

You guys are great...thanks so much for the good vibes! (and um...that was 4 fingers, right?) Yeah, I am ok...sore, but thankful. I just get so irritated with the usual reply you get from drivers in cases such as this "Well, I didn't see you!" Didn't see me??! I was wearing yellow, with lights on (law in the UK) and I was RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Scary that people like this drive. Sad thing is, it will probably take a much more serious accident to occur for these individuals to be more aware. Honestly, though, I think that this driver was just as spooked as I was...but then, after I was through yelling at her (No cussing, but I can get pretty ticked when stuff like this happens) I probably would have been spooked, too!
In any case, thanks so much for the well wishes...they do mean a lot to me!

Well ! I am so very glad you are ok! I hope tomorrow isn't too bad and that that other woman learned her lesson!

Sarah! Let the boys take care of you and don't let hubby stop you from biking
