Most of the time we do. The hat i may be wearing to the wedding of my Directors daughter next year is one i wore a couple of years ago, which is a navy blue victorian riding hat with a short veil over the front

Heres one similar but without the big bow.

Oh and the wedding isn't at that mansion now because theres now 120 guest going instead of 100 so their looking at Lumley Castle on sunday

I think that is so cool Susan. In the 60's, I remember older women all wearing hats to like church and what not, but you hardly see anyone wearing them at all for any reason now here............

Aww Susie I'm sure you'd look very smart and chic! Do you think we need to start looking for hats? Susan - is this a roundabout way of making an announcement?

I must be of a lower class to all of you!

The weddings I have been to, only the Mother of the Bride wore a hat!

I wear all sorts of hats though, on a daily basis! I have flat caps, Beanies, Berets....and so on!

Thank you, Fran and Beth!

I think I would look pretty silly walking around the streets of Manc with a posh hat to top off my flares and t-shirts!

I do like to try them on in shops though!

.......couldn't I just wear some posies in my hair??? asks Susie -

Back in the "olden" days my Mom would take a piece of netting and a flower or two from her garden and wear that when the event required a hat. Once she used an okra blossom! She had women complimenting her and bemoaning how they couldn't wear stuff like that. Not only were hats more than she could afford, but she (sis and I) have large heads and look awful in hats. Once Mom and sis were trying on hats at a store and started getting silly trying them on (sis' friend was getting married in a catholic church). They were giggling and laughing then finally looked around them. They had an audience! Other shoppers had stopped to watch.

We are so relieved that hats are not de rigeur here anymore!

BTW - on Monday's The View, the ladies were discussing the hats and Star Jones said that hats like that are still popular with negro ladies in the church she grew up in.
