Neither. My cats are too self involved and have their own agendas and my husband is well, .....a man.

I don't have a spouse or a boyfriend. But even when I did have those things, my cats were ALWAYS the ones who understood me better, loved me "for me" instead of what they saw on the outside, and above all, my cats have never, ever judged me. Can't say the same for any men that have been in my life.

People never really know each other, people hide things from each other; but well, what do you hide from your cat? You can say anything you want and not have repurcussions. You can burp or fall down or make an arse of yourself and your cats won't get angry. Cats don't hide stuff from ya (except for the occasional hairball I find under the futon), and cats don't lie or hold back affection.

Yes, I'm the lady who lives alone with many cats. And I'm one happy lady because of it!

I'm not sure if my cats understand when I'm sad because they have stiff competion from 4 dogs that are all over me when I cry.

From the thread title I thought you were asking us to choose between the cat and the S/O! THAT was easy! The cat!

Who understands me better? Oh geez... I would have to go with the cat. At least she's female, so she understands that. The b/f and I are such opposites that we're complete mysteries to each other!

Exactly how I feel. Always seems to be the kitties.
Eric and I are just wired a bit differently -more so than alike.

Based on these past 2 weeks and all the bad things that have happened in my life as of late, I'd say the kits. Cosette lets me hold her extra long, purring in my ear all the while. And Eponine always rubs up against me when I cry
The only thing the kitties don't get is that I do not want someone or something sleeping right on top of me at night!

I have to say my boyfriend at least does everything he can to understand me. And even when he can't, he still makes me feel like it's ok to feel however I feel, which means SO MUCH when I'm irrationally angry or upset. The cats don't usually seem to understand how I'm feeling, but they don't have to understand to get my mind off if or distract me with their hilarious hijinx. Lola is a good cuddle-bug when I'm feeling blue. Sammy isn't very cuddly any more (ever since we got Lola, even though he totally loves Lola and they get along great...he must have decided that if he's not the baby then he won't cuddle
).

So, I'd say my boyfriend understands me better than my cats. But I wouldn't give the cats up for anything, even if they're a not that perceptive of my mood!

I joke with my friends that I'm going to be that crazy old cat lady... except young... and a guy.

last year i was suffering really badly with depression. i couldnt eat, sleep or even bring myself to get out of bed most days let alone talk to anyone or leave the house.

as i'd only been with my boyfriend for three months i managed to hide the extent of it from him but he knew there was something wrong and did the sweetest thing ever to make me feel ok. he bought me Maverick.

as soon as i got her i wasnt able to lie in bed all day as this tiny kitten needed me so i gradually pulled myself together and began to live again.

so its a really tough choice. they both comfort me in different ways and i couldnt have gone back to uni to finish my course without either of them

I'd have to go with our cat - he's more attuned to my emotions than my husband is, but I have a feeling hubby would give the same reply! I think Jamie is more emotional than both of us, and thus more aware of moods. As an only, indoor cat, he has little to distract him from the two of us, which I'm sure plays a role. We both get preoccupied with work, family, friends, politics, etc., while his world revolves around the two of us, his buddy Aki (the dog next door), and ZsaZsa (our "half-cat", and his main "rival").

well, i know this wasn't an answer but for me, it's my dog. who comes running--running--when i squeak in pain and looks at me, holding up his worried ears? who does not care whether or not i have gained weight? who never looks at other women? ok, well, he sniffs their butts...but....who does not care if i am wearing old, holey clothes? who gets excited when i put my pants on cause it means we are going for a walk? who does not care if i have decided to try out a new religion? who comforts me when i am sad? who never, ever, gets tired of snuggling? come to think of it, maybe i should marry him!!!

Definitely my cat!!! She always knew what I needed. If I was sad, she was there to lick my tears, if I was playful, she was there to entertain me (I'm sorry I meant, I entertain her) LOL
I have ended relationships over my cat.
