Poor you! Are you using a brush or a roller? I find a roller or a paint pad (depending on the finish you want) gets the job done in a fraction of the time it takes with a brush.

I'm sure it will look fantastic when you've finished.

Good luck to you in getting your painting done. Maybe you'll be like me with cleaning and get a rush at 2 a.m. and just start doing it. Hopefully you can find some help!
Thankfully the cats are still in our rented house. I can get most of the work done while my kits sit and nap at the old house. I don't think that paint will make them sick as long as you keep the rooms you are painting well ventilated. I will still be painting when we move the kits over so I hope I'll be able to keep my little nosies out of everything.

I am using a roller. I can't use a paint brush very well, I leave streaks all over whatever I'm painting. I'm such a klutz, most of my time is spent cleaning up spills and getting the paint off myself. I plan on posting before/after pictures when we complete each room. It will take a while tho b/c we are redoing EVERYTHING, from putting down hardwood floors to replacing light fixtures. I wish you and your hubby could come do our garden/patio area!!!!! Yours is gorgeous!

Yes - I have been there and I need to go back and use my free ticket!
(A friend's father worked there and he got a lifetime of free tickets when he retired and he gives them to us)

Awww thanks!

I think hubby would swap your job for his at the moment. At this very second he's painting in our kitchen. Which is totally bare - waiting for the new kitchen to be delivered next Tuesday - he will be fitting that himself. Tomorrow, he has to get all the bitumen (tar) off the kitchen floor, it used to hold the old tiles down - we'll be putting a natural stone floor down.

Ah well - at least you can feel happier that it would take you longer with a brush

Yes please - before and after pictures. I'm sure it will be fantastic when you've finished. It will be your home for many years - you don't have to do it all at once!

Now, speaking from experience, use Behr Paint from the Home Depot if at all possible. I have tried many brands and Behr is the best. Also, use primer if you are going from dark to light followed by TWO coats of paint. It is worth taking the time to apply two coats.

Private message me if you need any further assistance from "Harry, the happy homeowner".
Thanks for the info! I've never used Behr before, I'm gonna go to Home Depot today and check out the colors!! If I spend all this time painting, I definitely want to use the best paint!!

Maybe you could get one of your neighbors to go on Trading Spaces with you.
I would love to be on Trading Spaces!! Maybe I'll write in to HGTV. My house needs so much work, they could do an entire SERIES while working on our house!!

A natural stone floor! That is gonna look great! I can't decide what to do our kitchen floor in. I'm not sure what will look good with stainless steel appliances and countertop. It sounds like your hubby a lot of work ahead of him, too! (i'm sure you'll help)

I love painting...
I did the kitchen and my bf said i did a very bad job

its not too bad, really! the we just had a little bit of paint left, and i had to cover this massive thing that these people drew before hand and it looked like a tatoo i had to go ove rit 7 times to get the wall white! half of the kitchen was already white enough anyway.
But now even the other room that bf painted mostly has gone back to its old dirty colour.
we cant wait to move though!

We're putting travertine on the walls and floor - that's being delivered next Tuesday as well - I haven't got a clue where we're going to put all this stuff until it's fitted
.

I'll be helping out where possible, but he retired (for the second time) in November last year, so whilst I work, he's doing the domestic projects we had lined up before he looks for something else to do with his time. So I'd better leave him plenty to do otherwise he'll get bored when I'm working

The thing that takes me the most time is the "real trim work" - the mouldings and baseboards.

I wish you luck and I'm sending good painting vibes your way!!~~

I was thinking, if you aren't keeping the carpet or are able to cover it very well, you could rent a paint gun and spray it all. That way all you would have to do is the mouldings.
OOh! Where can you rent a paint gun??? We aren't keeping the carpet so that sounds like a great idea!! Can you use regular paint with it?

LOL - you can't stay in the biltmore house itsself, but there is a inn but it is ultra expensive, one can only dream of staying there!

There are quite a few hotels nearby, naturally.

Painting IS instant gratification and it's amazing what just painting the walls can do to a room!! I love the idea of rich red in the dining room! That's gonna look great!

Aw, I was hoping I could stay there!!!! Who wants to stay at Super8 after seeing the Biltmore?!?!?! Lowe's has a paint line out right now that was inspired by the Biltmore, they have brochures with pics of some of the rooms and featured colors pulled out of those rooms. I'm doing our family room in one of those colors (hopefully, hubby still isn't convinced).

I would LOVE to pay someone to do it for me!! The only problem is, one of the reasons that we bought the house is so we could fix it up and make a profit off of it when we sell it in 5 years. We're trying to do most of the leg work ourselves so we can keep costs down. My Father in law was a contractor before he retired so he's gonna be putting in quite a few hours at our house (you can't beat free labor)

I just completed in Feburary 2 painting projects.
TIPS: If the trim is in place buy the BLUE masking tape to tape off all the trim-yes its a pain but does save ALOT of clean-up time.
I used Benjamin Moore paint for my last 2 projects what is nice about Benjamin Moore paint is they have small samples of 350 of their most popular colors. I did two of their faux styles-"Smooshing" and "Al Fresco". They were pretty easy. But I've dont faux painting technicques in ALL my rooms in the house.
Also you can buy a "rag roller' for a quick faux painting.
Just take it slow. DONT BUY FLAT PAINT. Very hard to clean off smudges, etc off of walls.
I've also used Diamond Vogel and Sherwin Williams paints with success to.
Even though Benjamin Moore and the others are more expensive if paint with a darker color this "brands" have more pigment in them than less expensive brands.
Plus the paint store employees are usually more knowledgeable.
PM me if you need help.
Oh another thing-buy good quality paint brushes-the cheaper ones have bristles falling out all the time.
