I remember when Jem was a popular cartoon...I remember gummy bears and the smurfs were also popular shows. I remember having the Jem doll that the earrings lit up on...and then my sister ripped her head...she never worked right after that. I also had the shera set as well...that was another cartoon. And the bottle cap candy that came in orange, grape, coca-cola, and rootbeer. Remember the blue cream soda drink?? It was cream soda, but blue?? And I loved candy necklaces...they were the thing!

Airheads!! YES! Thank you! For some reason I just could NOT remember their name. Man I REALLY loved those things!

I still have all of my little ponies. And the fashion star ponies...those were big too. They came with those clothes, and they had the curly different colored hair. I still have those!!
Oh my goodness POPPLES! They were just the COOLEST.

And you answered AmberTheBobcat's question, it was called Skip It. I loved those things too. There's actually one at the visitation center I work at and the kids still go nuts for it.

I'm 32. I remember when I was in 2nd grade, we'd be able to play 2 streets away THE ENTIRE DAY without reporting home, because we were TRUSTED with our friends & TRUSTED with our parent's friends.

I remember taking off on our bikes or rollerskates and just going 'everywhere' from after breakfast til it was dusk, or til we heard one of the parents yelling for us to eat. And I remember a lot of the times we'd not even eat at our own house... whoever's house you were closest to, that's where ya ate. And the parents didn't mind!

I remember that King Dongs were a lot bigger than what they are now; everything shrunk. And while some might say, "nah you just got bigger", no I did not. All these companies put less and less into their products and charge more and more. Back then when the ice cream man came rolling down the street we just needed some quarters. Now, you have to have $5 just to buy a freaking push-up pop.

Clackers! They were banned from school, as they might be used as a bola-type weapon and then universally banned, as they chipped and bits flew into kids' eyes.
Yes!!! That was it! I remember my mom and dad telling us NO!!! you can't have one of those, they are dangerous. Well, after a lot of begging, my 2 sisters and I did get them. You know what? They did chip, but we never got hit in the eye. So, you see kids, listen to your parents, they are right!

And you answered AmberTheBobcat's question, it was called Skip It
Wow, I never knew that is what those were called. It seemed all the kids on my street had those.
Here is another one. Does anyone remember Fuzzy Wuzzy?? This was soap that came in different animal shapes. After you would use them, they would grow fuzz! Then inside the soap, there was a small plastic charm. I remember the dog one. It had a small plastic hot dog inside

Last, but not least, in memory of the poor kids that lost their lives in this last school shooting in Minnesota, how about going to school without a worry. About the only worry you would have is whether you would get homework for the weekend or not.

I had to laugh because I loved the Clackers and yes, I remember the Fuzzy Wuzzy soap. I keep thinking - man - we have a few 40-somethings on this forum.

Yup, the other 40somethings said a lot of things I remember. I also remember chinese jumprope, hula hoops, the James & Johnny West set (complete with horses), and Wishnicks (later called troll dolls).

We used to play Barbies and use my friend's big sister's sanitary napkins for sofas and beds.

Does anyone remember Klondike Cat? I remember the name, but can't picture him.

Okay for TV, I remember The Greatest American Hereo, live action Wonderwoman and Spiderman, The A Team, Knight Rider, Scarecrow and Missing King, and Remington Steele among others.

Any one from the eighties remember Burple, it was like Kool Aid only it came in an expandible jug. I loved the grape stuff.

I also remember having these little dolls for the bathroom, they came in sets of two or three if I remember correctly, a mermaid, her baby and perhaps a pet. I had lots of them but can't for the life of me remember what they were called.

I remember ET coming out and having to go see it because it was the hottest movie at our school. I also remember not liking it.

I remember the Atari 2600 coming out and every kid going bonkers over it is seemed. Pacman fever indeed.

In the town I grew up in people still let their kids head to their friends house a couple of blocks away and come home when it has gotten dark. I guess it has made me naive because I really didn't realize most places and people don't let their kids do this anymore. I assure you though, there are still those places where those things can still go on - and it's not even way out in the country! Ormond Beach is a lovely medium sized beach town.

This thread is bringing back alot of memories

I remember skip its and clackers. The funny foam and silly string.

When I was very young there used to be trucks selling stuff (like the ice cream man does) only there was a bread truck and soda truck and one that sold potato chips and stuff. I don't remeber if people had to order stuff ahead of time or not though. I think there was a produce truck as well.

Does anyone remember the game Knock Hockey??

Cindy, sounds like you were quite the rebel... wearing the white go-go boots whenever you could, despite Easter being the first "official" day to wear white shoes!

Chutes and Ladders and Candyland games. I had those, I bought them for my kids and I probably will buy them for the twins.

In 1966, I got a pair of white "go-go" boots and tried to wear them with everything. Nancy Sinatra is responsible for my lifelong love of shoes and boots.

Easter meant a new dress, hat, shoes, gloves and purse. This was the first "official" day to wear white shoes.

Frankly, I had a pretty crappy childhood, but I do have fond memories of my black kitty Midnight, who I brought home when I was 6 and insisted we keep (until my cat-hating father shipped him out to a farm a couple of years later
) so that was a positive.

Very true, however in my neighborhood, they had to be properly scuffed, pristine saddle shoes were not allowed.

Does anyone remember white lipstick. It was during the mid to late sixties, when the English "Mod" look was all the rage. Everyone bought Yardley makeup. We, meaning my sister and I and our friends were considered too young to wear or buy lipstick so we painted our lips with Noxema skin cream, we THOUGHT we really looked groovey with white lips AND our white Go-Go Boots!
