because my bf works away alot in the week, i'm often in the house most nights on my own, maybe im a wimp
but when he's not here, i wont do certain things, like:
1.when im in the kitchen with the light on, i wont look into the reflection in the window incase someone is standing behind me
, obviously there wont be, i just get scared!
2. i dont like getting a bath when i'm on my own, as my bathroom is downstairs i have to have the door wide open, kitchen light on, dining room light on telly really loud!
3. i have to sleep with the hall light on, i always make myself think i can hear loads of bangs downstairs, and if i need the toilet in the night, i make myself wait untill the morning, no way am i walking through the dark house at nigh

Anyone else like me?

My Mum works night shift a couple of days a week so when I'm alone in the house I wont watch any scary movies or CSI or anything. Yup I'm a wimp!
Or I wont go into the garage cos I swear it's haunted.

I never answer the door on my own and have a security camera by the front door so I can see who's there. The only time I answer the door is if it's a member of my family.

I don't like to look OUT into the dark - you don't know what you might see
.

I sleep with the lights on in the hall and on the landing if hubby's away.

I always keep the outside doors closed and locked.

I definitely don't watch scary films - even when hubby's there!

I keep a torch in the room with me in case the power goes out and a mobile by my bed in case I hear someone downstairs.

I know I'm a wimp.

Not a wimp at all, Beth! I, too, leave the door locked. I also have decorative white lights around the family room window and leave these on. When I get into bed, I pick my feet up off the floor quickly, who knows what could be under there to grab my ankle! I will not look out the window at night because no amount of therapy could ever get me back right if anything were to ever be looking back at me.

Stephanie - I know what you mean. My dad has big eyes - they stick out a bit. When I was growing up, he went to fetch my mum from somewhere late at night and I stayed at home cleaning the dishes. I was standing in front of the window and it was dark outside. Suddenly I noticed these really big eyes staring at me - just peeking over the window ledge outside. I was terrified. I remember stumbling backwards, plate in one hand and teatowel in the other. It was the most terror I have ever known in my life. I hit the kitchen door with my back and just stood there, quivering looking at these eyes. I remember trying to scream but nothing came out.

Then, up popped my dad - laughing his head off - he thought it was hilarious. I tell you, how ever he made it beyond that night alive I'll never know. I didn't see the funny side at all - that was one time I had a total sense of humour failure.

So now I don't like to look out of the window when it's dark outside.

I am soo afraid of the dark it's not even funny!!! I keep my tv on when I sleep. I have a street light that shines in my window too so I always have a light on. My boyfriend thought it would be a good idea to drag me to a huanted house over halloween. I told him over and over again that I do not like haunted houses, and he knows I'm afaid of the dark. I was crying I was soo scared.
B/c I was so scared, we didn't make it to the haunted house.
The worst part is the characters skiped the 5 people we were with and went straight after me!!! Jon was getting pissed. He told this one guy to get out of my way, so I can get out of there, but he didn't move!!!! And the guy who lead us to the end poked fun at me.

At that one the characters can not touch you but they did anyway. Jon wanted me to go to a haunted house where his friend worked at, there the character can touch you. It's a good thing he didn't bug me to go to that one too bad.

I can totally relate to hating haunted houses. I think we are cursed with such active imaginations that make those things so real to us or something. Anyhow, I absolutely hate them! Yes, crying and screaming the whole way through!! My boyfriend made me go too! Only once though....

When I'm home alone, I get really scared taking a shower, because I can't hear too well. The water and the fan make my little shower make it difficult to hear much else. I always tell my boyfriend that if he comes over when I'm in the shower to make sure I know it is him as soon as possible. (and not to even think about playing a practical joke and scaring me!!)

It is so great to find other People that have the same fears as I do. My husband has laughed at me for years cause I have to sleep with a bathroom light on. In case someone breaks in I need to see where I am going to get to my kids. When he used to work at night I used to have my kids sleep in our bed at night. If they didn't I would wake-up every hour on the hour. I am a wimp
I am so scared that someone might come and take my kids.
When I am home alone I check to make sure the lights are on, doors are locked and I try to stay awake as long as I can.

When hub is gone:

-The closet in the bedroom HAS to be shut. No one is there to protect me from the closet monsters.

-No scarey movies late at night.

-I pratically get a running start into the bed so the monster under there won't get my feet. lol

-I have to have my toes covered at night.

-I leave the outside light on out back. We have large windows and if I can't see out them I freak out.

And I cover my head with a pillow and I have to sleep with the radio on so I don't hear the weird sounds the house makes. They are ten times louder when I am alone.

I am almost always alone, I even work the graveyard shift at my job, alone. I never sleep in the dark. On the nights I don't work, I have all of the lights in the apartment on. I have always been scared of the dark.

you think having a cat would make me feels better. trouble is any noise she makes makes me think BURGLARS and i sit shivering under my duvet, phone in hand, waiting for them to come up the stairs.

not to mention the nightmares i have had caused by her leaping ion my head at night or biting my feet

After reading this thread, I guess I'm not too weird. If I'm home alone in the evenings or at night (hubby works different shifts), I always check to make sure all the doors and downstairs windows are locked, and check out every room in the house (i.e., I turn on the light and look for intruders, and appliances that haven't been turned off or unplugged,) before going to bed. I keep my mobile phone fairly close to the bed, because we don't have an upstairs extension, but other than that, I don't worry too much, because Jamie will wake me up at the slightest odd noise. He's caught burglars not once, but twice, meaning he woke me up when a company located catercorner behind us was broken into, and I called the police. He even made the local newspaper.
