O, I'm terribly sorry for your loss. There are quite a few folks on here that have had the misfortune of dealing with this disease, myself included. I lost my kitty last Fall and it was terrible. While going through this I found this website. Fortunatly, his brother never contracted the disease and tested negative. There are some wonderful resources about this disease online. I had never even heard of it until I started researching my kitty's symptoms. I am sending you good thoughts and prayers to help you during this awful time. God Bless.

You did the right thing ending your kitty's suffering. One day, they will thank-you for it.

God be with you! My deepest sympathies for your losses.

Our condolences on the loss of your kittens. I praise your courage to end their suffering humanely. I have made that terrible decision far too often - although it's the best thing you can do for your friend, that final act of true love, it is devastating! And although your heart is breaking, your little ones are on the other side, in a better place, knowing that you will be rewarded greatly for the love you gave to His creatures. Sincerely, Susan (Icy,JC,Joey&Cinders)

Thank-you all for your support. This is the saddest I have felt in my life. My kittens were brother and sister and were diagnosed within less than 3 months of each other. The cattery I bought them from insists they have no sick cats there, but these kittens were only 6 and 9 months old when diagnosed, and I got them when they were 3 months old. The cattery has since retired their mother and father and claims to have sold their brother who at first I was told they were keeping for their breeding program. They are not at all compassionate about what suffering the kittens endoured and the grief I and my family feel. They have just basically turned their heads the other way and continue to breed the remainder of their cats. This is just not right.
Before we purchased these kittens I had a Persian cat from when she was 4 months old until she was 15 and she lived a long healthy happy life before her health started to fail due to her age. I really thought that I would have these 2 sweet angels for their lives. I cry for them all the time.

I'm so very sorry you lost your darlings Mia and Willow. This so soon after you lost your dear friend and companion of so many precious years.
Your aching heart must just be shattered to pieces. I pray that you will feel peace to replace the emptiness and comfort in place of the agonizing pain. My heart truly goes out to you during your difficult time of grief.

The worst thing about this disease is that when the kitties show symptoms it's almost always too late. They can also be carriers of the disease and never get sick. It's such a mysterious illness and it's so hard to diagnose and come to terms with. The tests they do for FIP are very elusive as well.

That's a shame the cattery isn't being real sensitive to you about this. My kitty that got sick was from the humane society. Unfortunately, they would have had no way of knowing they gave me a sick kitty until it was too late, so I really didn't blame them. But they should've been more kind and compassionate to you about the situation. I guess it's a good thing you found this site. You'll find lots of compassion and sympathy here.

It was devastating. I understand what you are going through. I waited a year or so before getting another - two little sisters. I have done a good bit of research on the disease, how it is transmitted and theories about why certain kitties succumb while similarly exposed cats remain fine. I talked with a couple of vets and got the latest on the vaccine that is available. I found the evidence that the vaccine may provide prevention for an unexposed cat compelling (double blind tests with control groups, etc.) and have had my two little girls vaccinated. I don't think it is the breeders' fault per se (although not accepting responsibility and being insensitive is unacceptable and unforgiveable). If you so choose, your breeder owes you another kittie. There is some evidence I have read that genetics plays a role, although it's not really conclusive or predictive. I do think it is a disease that is with us all and maybe the vaccine could help. Of course, money for research to find a cure would be the best, but there are infinite causes that need financing. I give a little money to a shelter in my area. That, and purchasing the vaccine for my new little girls made me feel better, in a small way.
Best
