What I would do is take a large bunch of them and put them away. Then you can rotate which toys are out and available. This could generate new interest in toys when they haven't been seen in awhile. Neither of my cats are big on any toys, but my friend's 2 are. When they see some that we take out of storage, it's like a brand new toy all over again. They get bored of seeing the same old ones all the time.

Pfftt Rhonda you should see my house with toys never mind the living room!

Their in the kitchen, the living room, the stairs, their bedroom, the bathroom. The only room there isnt one is my room because i always keep my door shut.

I do what Deb said in switching them around every now and then and give them a spray of catnip.

Not only do I have cat toys but also dog toys aplenty! I just keep them all put away in their special places. Beau doesn't scatter his too much; just one at a time usually. And I am teaching the border collie to put his own toys away!

Sierra, also, has more toys than any kitty could ever play with. I do what was previously suggested and keep a good number of them put away and rotate them every little while so she doesn't get so bored with what's out. Presenting the different toys makes them more like new again!
As Susan said, I keep all of her catnip toys like her pillow, pom-pop, ball, teddy bear, etc in a ziplock bag with catnip so they're freshly "marinated" in catnip whenever it's time to play!

Stephanie what a good idea!
Although they bite and rabbit kick their toys once i've sprayed them, they do prefer the fresh catnip best so i'm going to do what you do!.

Uh oh!
You mean there is such a thing as too many toys?!?!?!

Our place is covered with them. Trent really likes sparkle balls, so there are probably 20-30 scattered around the place. (He and Ophelia like to chase them when we throw them, but Earl spoiled him out of "fetching" them by always having multiple balls to throw.) Ophelia has various little stuffies, socks and other toys she brings to us and leaves in bed for us as presents.
And of course there are various interactive toys, mice, other balls, etc. laying around too.

Take them all away. Introduce one at a time.... and if it gets used keep it. if it languashes in the corner.... put it in a closet till it becomes a new toy. That's what we did

I just moved around my living room today and you should have seen all the toys we found under the sofa!! Are sofa's black holes for cat and dog toys? Also found some toys in the cushions.

IMO, there are too many toys when you can't walk thru the house without tripping over them or stubbing your toys. Dog bones and chewies are the worst! Once they get out of hand, I put some away and start rotating them.

I can't count the number of times I've vacuumed under the sofa only to get a little critter toy stuck in the wand part.

All these toys and my little CJ still loves to climb behind all the computer stuff and go after my ankles. *sigh*

Gandalf and Samwise have more cat toys than any cat I've ever known not only is my apartment decorated with them,my parent's house is decorated with them. I keep most of them in shoe box that the boys can get to I just pick them up and throw them back in the box weekly or they'd be all over the place.

My two have zillions of toys!!

They overflow from the little basket I was given for them!

My opinion is that the more the merrier! My two scatter their toys everywhere and find the tiniest nook and cranny! When they loose one, they find another - plus they have fun trying to find them again!!

I don't really mind them being everywhere - they put up with the mess of my artwork, so it's a bit of give and take really!!

Stephanie - that is a great idea about marinating old toys to make them fresh again! I think I will do that!!

I keep Ivo's toys (mostly sparkle balls) on a chair next to my front door. When I wake up in the morning, most have been knocked off and tossed around the room. I figure it keeps her well entertained.
