I took sweet Mittens into the vet today because he has been peeing on the floor...more than once in one week is enough for me. Oh boy, he wasn't happy!!
Found out he has cystitus (I think I spelt that right...) and will be on antibotics for 7 days! Thank the lord for vets!

Well, we are starting a new life as of this evening, and I have vowed with my Mittens that he really needs to lose the weight! He weighed in at 24 pounds and 11 ounces. We have to loss this 10 pounds...so here we are...I am gonna post how his progress is going until we get down to 14 pounds. I want to post pics of his progress too. I need support also because when he whines, it gets the best of me. I thought I would share this with all of you since you are my family.

So now...I'll begin tomorrow with a picture and how our day went.

Thanks so much everyone---to a happy and healthier future for Mittens!

Awwww poor Mittens
I've never had it but i've heard cystitis is nasty, bless him!.

I know when i took Rosie for her booster in june last year the vet weighed her and i knew in myself she had put weight on because she kept thieving Sophies kitten kibbles!

She weighed in at just over 10lb and the vet said she should be 8lb.

Now that i have Sophie she does get more exercise with them chasing after each other, but we'll see what she is when she goes for her yearly check up in june!.

Good luck Candie because you sound like me who hates to see them get upset, especially when they stare at you with their big sad eyes

Mittens sounds so cute. Here are some suggestions for weight loss, more play!! Does he have a friend to play with ? Buy a cat tree so he will have to climb up and down, Or those DaBird wands the cats love to run after that. I can't wait to hear about Mittens some more

Come one Mittens you can do it! Your lookalike Raffles has just had to lose a few pounds too, because he kept stealing the kittens' food. Just keep posting the pounds lost every week and we'll keep congratulating you. When's the next weigh in day?

Poor kitty...I remember when my Lyra was dealing with cystitis
neither of us was happy!

I wish you well with trimming Mr Mittens down a bit, I'll be watching your progress notes with interest!

What food are you switching to? One thing that cannot be emphasized enough is measuring the food!! Putting a cat on a diet food is useless if you don't measure!! (I'm sure you will)

I once had a very frustrating conversation with a client; she storms in whining that the expensive weight-loss diet we were selling her was making her cat fatter; I found out the fool was free-feeding the cat letting him eat as much of it as he wanted

I will be thinking of Mittens. I thought it was bad that my cats are having to lose 2-3 lbs.

Stay strong when your kitty meows. I try to do so as well.

Thank you everyone I appreciate it. He is eating Hi-Factor Formula. I looked at his pill bottle and he is actually gonna have to take 10 days...eew...he's been pretty good about taking the medicine. I spent the whole day shopping with my mom, but Zack said he didn't whine at all to be feed. I am suppose to give him a cup a day and I am breaking it into 4 times a day for that 1 cup. So far, so good!

catlover7731: There is Mittens in my siggy! Isn't he precious?!

I am also considering getting DaBird, I've heard that it is a great interactive toy. Also, he has Watson to play with all day...and he has a scratching post he did get for Christmas

Weighing in day will be every Friday.

Oh my, he's so cute with the swipe of "flour" on his nose! I know he needs to slim down, but he's darn cute as a pudgey fellow

Sweet, sweet face.

He looks adorable, no matter how pudgey he is!

I've heard Da Bird is a great toy, do you have a Cat Dancer? That can wear Baylee out... today we played with her toys she got in the mail, we ran up and down the stairs (I got bored, lol) and then we played with the Cat Dancer... by the time I left for work she was exhausted and had collapsed on the floor, ready to take a nap!

Good luck with the fitness program!

It can be really hard to get your pet to lose weight- I can sympathize!
At my clinic we are going to start a contest "The Biggest Loser" for pets! Clients can sign their animals up to see who can get their bet to take off the most weight and get to an ideal weight. Then they can get support from clinic staff and other pet owners.
I am going to use my cat Sunny as the overweight cat poster-child!

He doesn't have any "real" toys. Just a couple of balls and the scratching post...he is really lazy...so I think once he gets down a few pounds he'll be willing to play more.

He just had his 4th part awhile ago and we are getting ready for bed. First day...and so far so good. We'll see what happens tomorrow since I'll be home all day, it might be a little harder to resist that cute face
I can't let him get the best of me
He'll think me for this in a couple of months...

The Cat Dancer is only $5 I think, maybe less and I HIGHLY recommend it... I have yet to meet a cat that can resist. Granted, he could prove me wrong... but Baylee goes nuts for it, if I don't watch her she'll be panting and her paw pads will be sweaty in no time!

Sunny was around 14lbs last time I weighed her although she has probably gained a little. She is supposed to be a rather slight build. If I had to guess I would say she should be around 9lbs. the contest is only for our clients, but maybe we can all post our progress on this thread!

Today was a little harder since I was home most of the day. He didn't do so bad, but now he is howling...I guess the first couple of days are gonna be this way.

Taking his pill this evening took about 10 minutes, he is really frusterated with me. When I picked him up, he does feel a little lighter...or I am just "thinking" that.

I will go to Petco this week and get him a few more toys. He did play for about 10-15 minutes today...and Watson joined in, we had a ball.
