Well,at least for now.I have posted about the problem at my school before, but for those that don't know(or don't remember.LOL) there are quite a few ferals in the barn attached to the building that we have classes in.They have babies and sometimes fall through the ceiling tiles and come into the building. We have also had many kittens fall between the wall and we have to get maintenence to cut them out.
Anyway we are out right now,but me and a fellow classmate and our vet were at school yesterday to get a few things done and a black kitty(prob around 9-10 months old)had fallen through the ceiling and was trapped in a room.I don't know how long she had been in there with no food and water, but she sure had made a mess. She had it stunk up so bad in there we thought she was a "he".
Well we got a net and got her cornered and stuck her with some sedative. Then we discovered "he" was a she.Our vet had time and said he could spay her right now,but we would have to find a place for her to go.We haven't convinced them yet to release them back to their territory, but are working on it.
Anyway..he spayed her(also ear tipped) and we couldn't find any place for her to go so she is now in my bathroom in a cage(with litter/food/water of course).
I had her in a small carrier when I got home and had to transfer her to a bigger one.I was kinda worried because she was waking up(was still pretty groggy though),but I reached in and scruffed her and moved her and she didn't try to do anything.
I have been going in and talking to her and she actually seems pretty content. Most ferals I have seen keep their eyes wide open and watch your every move, but after a second she starts closing her eyes like she is saying "Shut up already I am trying to sleep" LOL.
I also took a long spoon and gently rubbed her back to see what kind of reaction I got and she just watched it and me,but never hissed, tried to slap or bite,so she is doing really good.
I actually contacted a feral group last night to see if they could take her and relocate her and the lady said she probably could and she would get back with me in a few days. She asked me if I thought that she could be socialized at all and I told her that I really wasn't sure because she was still groggy, but I should be able to tell more today.I really think she may have a chance of being somewhat socialized if someone has the time to dedicate to her.I know one of mine was almost a year old when I caught her and she does great(actually better than her bro and sis that I caught at 4 months old).
I would try to keep her and try to socialize her,but I have way too much going on now with bringing the Maine Coon in,about to go back to school, and an almost 5 year old son.
I will try to get some pics of her up soon. She is black with medium length hair(which is what MOST of the cats there are).
I hope the lady can find someone willing to work with this cat because I really feel like she has a chance.

Oh and I wanted to add that I have 2 ferals outside at my house that are going to have to be tnr'd.
I think one is the elusive momma that I have been after for so long and another is a black/white one that looks like my Oreo(and Big Daddy....the cat I trapped and neutered back of this and then found out it was a neighbor's cat...ooops.hehe).
The black/white one just "looks" like a male and I have my fingers crossed that it is a "he" because he will be easier to get fixed(esp on short notice),but the other one I am pretty sure is a female..."she" just looks so dainty which of course I could be wrong on them both, but I think I am dealing with one male and one female....maybe if I can catch them...that will take care of the feral problem in my neighborhood.

You're great to take this kitty in! It would be wonderful if it turns out she's friendly.
Glad you have a contact who may be able to help. This is one lucky kitty and she sounds beautiful.

Your school (or should I say the cats?) are in desperate need of a TNR program. Any chance you can find a few more interested students and get one started? Who knows how many poor kittens were trapped in the wall and no one knew about them...
That situation should not be allowed to continue. What about working with the feral group you mentioned?

I agree that something needs to be done. There are a few of us that are trying to get things done around there concerning the cats..it has been a slow moving process, but I think we are finally getting somewhere with this mess.
If the feral group is willing to help us that would be great.I had planned on talking to her more about doing this when she gets back in touch with me.
I really wish they would just let us s/n the cats and put them back into the barn, but that is still a no go.I keep telling them that more will come in their place, but I think they think I am nuts.

I do sometimes wonder if kittens have gotten trapped into the wall and we just didn't know it.They usually start meowing and that is how we know they are there...I don't think any have ever died in there as I have never smelled anything, but I guess you never know.
I just hope we can get something accomplished soon with these kitties.

Who is telling you that you can't TNR the cats back to the barn? I'm worried by your statement that "I keep telling them more will come in their place"- it sounds like someone has already removed some cats from the barn, and not humanely. Hope I'm wrong about that.

If you contact Alley Cat Allies and explain that you're getting opposition to a proposed TNR plan, they will send you information that you can give to the person(s) who is against helping the cats. Sometimes people just need a little education about an unfamiliar concept, and the info might help win their cooperation.

I'm so glad you're being persistent about trying to help these cats and kittens - they sure do need a friend like you! Keep us posted about this situation. Best of luck also with the 2 ferals by your house.

The school is saying we can't put them back.....supposedly they are going to "remodel" the barn...but I think they have been saying this for quite a while now and nothing has been done.
I think the cats need to be s/n...put back....and then if they decide to ever remodel THEN the cats can be trapped and relocated.

We have caught cats before and s/n them and put them in someone's barn, but they always run off because they were not relocated properly.

The little black girl is still here...I hope they get back in touch with me about her and can help because I don't have what I need here to properly release her here or I wouldn't care a bit to let her stay here outside and feed her.
Hopefully they can find someone who wants to try to socialize her though because she is being a really good girl.
