My sister will be taking this a kitty I have taken in home to the West Cost from the East Coast tommorow evening via airplane. The cat will be in a carry on carrier in the cabin but we would like to give her something to calm her down and sedate her slightly since she is still a little skitish. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A friend of mine has valium for her cat that her vet prescribed for when he takes car rides. She offered to give us some of this.....would this be sufficient?

Nope! Do not give your cat anything unless your vet prescribes it for them! There are ways you can make your kitties transport comfortable without involving drugs-

here is an article you should read-

It is dangerous to give your cat medication prescribed to other cats. Meds are based on the weight and the health of the cat in question

Just to second Hissy's excellent advice--never give your cat meds prescribed for another cat. Medications are prescribed according to weight. If you give one cat meds prescribed for another cat, you run the risk of kitty o.d. Also, unless medicine has been specifically prescribed for your cat by a vet who has just examined her, you don't know that the medicine is safe for your cat (i.e., you don't know if your cat has a condition that could make the medication particularly dangerous).

Thanks for all your feedback. Yes she does need a health certificate and that has been taken care of. FYI - you need to have it issued within 10 days of the flight. My vet gave me a script for Chlor-Trimetin - 4mg.....1/2 tablet evry 4-6 hours...
