I cannot seem to get into the Christmas spirit at all this year. All the presents are purchased and wrapped. Christmas cards were mailed in early December. But I have no urge to celebrate the season. Christmas music is irritating me and I want to smack all of the overly "Christmassy" people. This is just so unlike me. Normally I start with the carols in August and I am one of the most festive people around. I should be very happy this year with the baby on the way, but I just want to forget the whole thing this year and cancel Christmas.

Anybody else feel this way?

Kind of. I was fine until this morning. My car wouldn't start and the CAA tow truck driver said I need a new starter so I had it towed to the garage for that. Yesterday my husband's thermostat went on his car - it's at the same garage! Merry freakin' Christmas!

I guess it could be worse.

I hope your spirits pick up. Just think of that beautiful baby waiting to join you in this world - that has to make you smile and raise your spirits!

Maybe it is hormones...when I was pregnant I was very emotional some of the time and maybe your hormones are making you feel "grinchy" ? Also depending on how far along in your pregnancy you are, the extra stress and stuff to do maybe making you feel tired and depressed instead of "Christmasy" like you usually do. Maybe some time for you, reading a book, a bubble bath...etc. would help. Hugs, and hope that you feel more like "yourself" soon.

Nah, I feel like that too. I just am not in a festive mood. It's like Xmas came WAYYYY to soon. I'm just not ready for it. I don't have the time to do anything. I JUST got my families shopping done and I STILL have to mail them out! This stinks! It's like there isn't enough time this year for me. I work on average 48 to 60 hours a week and it seems like I am never in the mood to shop after working so much. But I got my Xmas cards out Wed of last week so at least that part is done! I'm a good daughter in that resepct!

I felt that way just after Halloween - that's when I noticed that some stores ALREADY had the Xmas stuff out.

I try to focus on the season itself and skip all the commercialization aspects of it (at least that's what I say - I bought some little Christmas treats for my ferals !)

both me and one of my other girlfriends were discussing this issue, neither one of us are in a good x-mas-y mood this year.... we didnt hardley decorate, we still have Not sent out x-mas cards, we are not done shopping, we are just not really in the mood, and we are kinda waiting for it to be over... normally we are both very festive and put up thousands of lights outside and in, and bake lots and lots of x-mas goodies for the troops in our husbands squadron, and we have x-mas music... everytime we get in the car and we hear an x-mas song, it is a race to get to the dial and turn it off... i was thinking i was just not into it cuz this is going to be my first x-mas without my family since me and my hubby got sent out here, last year we didnt do anything for x-mas here cuz we left in mid-december through mid-january to go to massachussetts, and even though i had the flu the entire time, i had a great time, this year, our first x-mas in our new house...not so great

I think i get burnt out because i do mainly everything. The christmas cards, buying the stamps, doing the grocery shopping, the baking (only 2 types of cookies) and the Chex mix. Get the decorations out, the shopping, wrapping and cleaning. My sister is flying in on thursday morn & dad driving in on Fri am. I did teach my hubby how to wrap presents and he will help with some of the cleaning. We have Musak at work and the Christmas songs get REALL annoying about this time of yr. Then all the stuff has to be put away in a couple of weeks!! Plus all the stuff going on with Sheba and treating all the cats for ringworm, Bakker's eye is still goopy and now he's sneezing!!
Oh well I guess I can't just sit around real books and eat bonbon's all day now can I??
Did I mentioned I still have 2 Christmas presents to finish making........................

You are SOO right! It IS too commercial! The best part of Christmas is the decorations on people's homes showing their love for Christmas AND the religious part which IMO is not here long enough! MY Church is CLOSED on Christmas day!

I do not have a religion, and christmas is not about anything religious for me. It is about being with family and giving. But these past 3 years I could care less. There are barely any decorations out, the tree is only up because we wanted to get rid of the boxes it was in. No ornaments on it, it is just sitting in the corner, not even plugged in. Maybe next year I will do better and decorate and the whole nine yards. I normally love Christmas and decorating and baking, but definately not this year. I guess it doesn't help that we just moved here a month ago tomorrow.

A few years ago, my immediate family decided to no longer exchange Christmas gifts. I didn't put up any Christmas decorations last year or this year because I now have cats. Personally, I'd only be decorating for myself because I rarely get visitors, except for my boyfriend.

I agree with WellingtonCats about Christmas being overly commercialized. It just feels so "fake" to me and not really following the tradition of giving out of the kindness of your heart.

Thank heavens I'm not the only one who feels this way! I was beginning to wonder if I'd lost it completely. I don't feel festive at all, and I think I'm just too tired for it. I too want only to sleep. It has been a hard year, I had to have my dear old horse PTS a few months ago, and I miss him very much. I suppose I am feeling generally sad this year, it's hard to get any enthusiasm for the festive season when you feel like this.
At least Christmas Day will be quiet for us, and a chance to rest for a few hours (in between pet feeding, etc.). It may be even quieter than usual if the phone company don't fix our line - we have had no phone since Friday!
