Some lady who lives in our neighborhood saw our cats and goes; "oh what beautiful Siamese-especially that one (pointing to Sagwa)". Then, when she gets a closer look she goes; "Oh, that's too bad." So I go; "What do you mean?" And she goes; "Well, I was going to say that you could show her (Sagwa), but she has a deformity." So I say; "What deformity?", and she goes; "She's apple-headed. It's a deformity. You can't show her."

OK, I have thought about showing Sagwa but was told that you can't show spayed cats. But now I'm even more pissed at our soon-to-be ex vet. She never told me that apple-headedness is a deformity! Now I'm worried about Sagwa's health. Like does being apple-headed mean she has hydrocephaly? Also, I think she's beautiful! It hurts my feelings because basically this person told me that my Sagwa was ugly! I wish we had a scanner so you all could see how pretty she really is. She's adorable! She is white and has eyes that are so blue it looks like God made them from the oceans of the Caribbean.

I'm pissed and worried. This person has made me doubt the health of my cat.

How mean of that lady!!! She's not a judge at a cat show!!! She's your neighbor! She obviously doesn't know what she's talking about, I'd just ignore her.

vinceneilsgirl, the lady you talked to doesn't know what she's talking about. The three different types of Siamese cats are traditional, classic and modern. The traditional Siamese is the oldest type and is sometimes called an Applehead Siamese, so don't worry, Sagwa is NOT deformed. Please read the following link for more information: http://members.lycos.co.uk/TSCA/2.html

P.S. I just love Applehead Siamese, they're beautiful animals.

What does she know? Ignore her - there are such things as apple head siamese cats. Also, if there was something wrong, any vet (even stupid ones) would know.

And what is important, is the fact you love her no matter what, so don't let some idiot get to you.

Relax! Your lovely girl is not deformed. Saying that apple-headed siamese are deformed is a rude way of expressing an opinion. Yes, current show standard for siamese call for a very different head shape, but that is by choice...and there are many folks out there who prefer and do breed "apple-headed" siamese.

As for showing a spay, whoever said you can not must be thinking of dogs

The Alter Class - which is for spay's and neuter's - is highly competitive in all associations! Some of the cats in this class are owned by those who choose not to breed and are top notch quality examples of their breed, some have minor flaws but are still show quality.

Please hug your girl and if this gal ever gives you more advice, I'd do the opposite!! (
oh I didn't say that did I??)

A lady I work with has an apple-headed siamese and to find out what the cat looked like I did some checking. All being an apple head means, at least as far as I know, is that your cat is the original type of siamese. Apparantly several years ago, it was decided that the thinner faced siamese should become the standard. The only reason I could find for that switch is aesthetic.( although personally I think the apple-headed are much cuter! Any person who would call an apple-head deformed is just a jerk.) In any case I couldn't find anything health wise wrong with this breed of cat. In fact, I found a lot of breeders on the web who are actively trying to preserve the apple-headed style. As for showing, I think some people do, but under a different category. Here's a couple of web sites to assure you there is nothing wrong with your kitty.

My Oriental Shorthair "Myst" was a spayed Show Girl . Please don't listening to that person who has no clue about anything .

Btw , there are many people who only like the apple-headed siamese over the others .

Iv'e never even hear of Appleheaded cats...I'm not a breeder, but I wouldn't listen to this rude woman.....your cat is beautiful...all cats are beautiful and to suggest that she is deformed in any way just shows the lack of breeding on the womans part....not your cats!

OMG!!!

Why should she be shunned/ignored/treated as someone horrid?

Did she say this out of hatred, with the intent to cause harm?

Or did she say this because she simply does not know anybetter?

My suggestion:

Kindly Correct her the next time you have a chance. Explain briefly that there are three breed profiles, that there is a category for altered animals, and that frankly, you really aren't worried about wether or not she is show worthy. You know you love her wether she comes home first place, or doesn't show at all.

Give the lady a chance to make an honest mistake, and give her a chance to learn from her mistakes.

How many people have called your Sagwa the incorrect gender? Mistakes happen.

There's no need to get so worked up over this. Your kitty is goning to be fine.

Heck...if I was a Kitten on this forum, and I came in stating that all cats should be declawed.

You all wouldn't ignore me, you would try to correct me. If I became hostile, and refused to acknowledge facts, only then would everyone here start to just simply ignore me, only then would everyone here start to treat me as an unwanted personality, only then would I be disrespected.

Is it not just as RUDE to jump to conclusions about people?

Sorry...but we are either part of the problem, or part of the solution. This person evidently is mistaken, the solution is to offer a correction. Ignoring it, responding with hostility, or anything else, only contributes to the problem.

Thanks guys!

Spotz...I would certainly be more polite to her than she was to me. She was a real snot...there's no other word for it.

MoF...I wasn't really mad, just worried. I mean, I was pissed in the sense that I thought maybe she knew something I didn't, but otherwise. I was more worried because I thought (because of the way she said it) that something was wrong with Sagwa that could possibly be unhealthy for her. And as you all know, my soon-to-be ex vet isn't very caring and isn't very good. So, I thought maybe this lady was telling me something that my vet hadn't picked up.

I told my fiance what was said, and he said; "Would she say that about someone's child?"

Pat & Alix...I may have more ?s later about showing...I need to gather my thoughts first though.

Okay, let me know...but I haven't shown my guys in a few years, and know there are more current show folk on the board that you will also want to ask questions of!

Yay for neighbours who dont know anything!
No worries, your Siamese is fine. Miikka resembles a bit of apple and a bit of modern. I think she is torn between the too.

Even if you cant show your cat, no worries. I considered showing Miikka, but then I realized that I am happy regardless of how beautiful she is or whether she wins first prize or not. She will always be my baby girl, and thats all that counts.
