Tuesday is very important for us because at 9:00 AM EST, Sierra is scheduled to have blood drawn for senior labs and a physical exam.
Sierra is better with her wonderful holistic vet than she ever was with her previous vet. The Dr. will strive to calm her with Feliway, Rescue Remedy and catnip, but anticipates giving her a mild sedative since Sierra takes none to kindly to having blood drawn
and becomes agitated at the very thought of anyone but me touching her for an exam. With the mild sedative, I will have to leave her there until 12:00.
She said if mild isn't effective, she would have to fully sedate her in which case she would have to stay until 5:00
, but that probably won't be necessary. Please pray with me that Sierra will remain peaceful and calm and won't require any of that nasty sedation and that all of her tests will come back with good results!

Sending calming vibes! I can empathize with you! My Shalimar (RB) was a hellion in the vets office! The people in the waiting room were waiting for a mountain lion to come out of the examining room when we were finished! She growled and bit! I finally learned how to hold her down so the vet could examine her and even take blood.

Maybe I could have Dori talk to Sierra for ya Stephanie
Dori does really well at the vets, except I noticed the last time I went she has in big pink and orange marker the word 'caution' written at the top of her file. I made them tell me why my sweet little Dori would have that written, they said when she was there to get spayed she was mean and bit them. I don't believe a word of it
I forgot to ask you is this just her annual check up, or is something wrong that you have to take her in?

Caution? Not your sweet Dori!
This is just a check up. She had labs drawn 2 years ago, and now that she will be 10 in July, our vet recommends that she have these senior labs annually. On her previous report, her thyroxin level was on the high end of normal, so that's one item to particularly watch. Every thing else was great. I'm once again looking forward to perfect results! Thank you so much for asking, Tanya!

Sierra will do splendid! Just know it! And Stephanie, she will have you there?? She'll do great and you can talk to her the entire time? Sasha sends his big boy calming vibes, hey, nobody is more laid-back than Sash, who extends a heartfelt invitation to your pretty girl to come play in his new fort mom made for him in the family room! How great you are taking her in, I know I have felt much anxiety when I've done the CBC and tests for Sasha as he approached "senior standing". Sierra is so lucky to have you!!

Good luck with regard to both the results and Sierra's "mood"! Maybe she'll completely surprise you and be an absolute angel (of course, I think that every time I take JC to the vets' office, and he has yet to behave himself).

That's what bothers me most, Elizabeth. It is their policy when kitties are having blood work to take the kitty back with them. I've talked to the Dr. in the past regarding this because I really feel that Sierra will do better with me there with her and she'll get really upset if I leave.
I plan to discuss this again in the morning.
I especially don't like the idea of her having to become alert not knowing where she is and with out me there to comfort her should she require a sedative which btw she will be more likely to need if I'm not there!

Thank you for your calming words knowinf all will turn out wonderfully!

Thank you too, Turtlecat. What a positive outlook, Tricia!
I'm going to focus on that, thank you!

well agreed! HUMPF~~~ I understand the vet's need to be objective and focused but honestly, if the kitty reacts so much better to the owner's presence and in turn leads to a more efficient and smooth exam, then the vet should heed your being present w/Sierra!~ I know how much anxiety that can cause. You don't want her to be traumatized and we know she is very "careful and cautious" around unknown humans....I do understand! The night we brought Sasha in to the ER wrapped in a towel and blood everywhere, they took him from me-- I begged and begged to go back! I thought we had lost him and I wanted to be there and they said no! Also in terms of blood work, it's a professional precaution on their part should any accidents occur and liability. But we just want to be with our kitties!
